***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Can I share my tip for today.

When chopping veggies to give to your chickens if they include jalopeno peppers, don't blow your nose during the process or just after!!!!!!

sometimes it will take awhile if at all, i have one silkie that likes to roost, but she was raised with regular chickens, might try putting a low roost or log in the run to show them it wont eat them?

I think I'll do that today. Put up a 2x4 6" off the floor and see if they'll use that. Maybe they're just warmer snuggled down in the shavings?

Sooner, I will have to check the link for using phone easier, I should just stop being lazy & actually turn on my PC!

I was reading some handouts from OSU ext office & it mentioned renting bee hives. I found that strange. I do want bees for pollination for my melons & such, but DH is scared of me getting bees. Plus read some where that guineas will take out bees, not sure how true that is P&B has guineas & bees, seems to work out right?

Hey Okies, everybody staying warm?

I'm planning on getting my chicks from Country Hatchery in Wewoka. Planning on driving over and picking them up rather than having them shipped. Any comments from those who have used this hatchery welcomed. Thanks!

I have bought chicks for Country Hatchery before . I bought some last spring. Joe Smith and his son are the owners and they are super nice folks to deal with. I have several layers now from there and am well pleased...

All you would have to do is to build a wire enclosure around the hives, should keep them seperated. I have a friend in the UK that has bees and chickens with no problems.

Guy's tip of the Day

Too much of a good thing. I, like many of you feed my chickens treats like grass, weeds, vegetables, table scraps and other food stuff that the hens will drop what ever they are doing and make a dash towards me begging for the morsels. The problem is when your hens eat to much treats, they get picky or full of treats and do not eat any or very much of the lay ration in their feeder. This could be another of the many things keeping you from getting your full egg laying potential out of your girls.
