***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning,

Sooner - Let us know you are okay.

I found plans for a pasture pen that looks like a little green house. Has anyone used a pipe bender before? I'm thinking about getting a tube bender at Loe's and some 3/4" EMT conduit (aluminum) to make the top of the pen. The instructions seem simple enough, but I've never bent metal pipes before, so I guess I should buy an extra length of conduit to practice on.

Poco bending pipe is pretty simple. It may take a little practice to get them bent exact, but with the kind of pipe you are useing you can go back and forth a little to get them right. Looking at the picture a person could use PVC pipe and do about the same thing. Show pictures and keep us posted. Looks like a nice easy pen that will be good for the fowl.

No mine are a little younger but similar conformation. I am using the blacks with a Birchen Cock starting in Feb or March to bring Birchen back to the breed. I think the color contrast will make for one excellent appearance.

Here is one of mine. I need pics of the females give me some time and I'll get them.

Carl awesome looking bird. It is a shame we dont see more of these. Once you insert the Birchen color how many generations do you think it will take to get back to the type of this bird?

Yes I have a pipe bender,
If you are going to use conduit then you need a conduit bender which is completely
different.. If you put conduit in a pipe bender you have to fill it (the pipe) with sand..
some electric supply places will bend your pipe if you get the-conduit from them..
just talk sweet, guys like to show off LOL

Looks like a neat pen

Newbie alert!

Hello all :) Just taking a moment to introduce myself. Norman resident, on an active hunt for land in the surrounding area for myself, DH and DS. Currently chicken-less (BOO!) but I grew up in Choctaw on a small farm, and miss it. I want my kiddo to experience some rural action after being such a city slicker. Plus, fresh eggs, he can't believe that they really are better, but proving him wrong will be fun!

Right now I am just doing a ton of reseach, leaning toward Buff Orpingtons to start with once we get moved. And coop plans, oh my. When will that winning Powerball ticket land in my greedy little fingers?

I can talk your ear off about making soap, and land surveying. I am looking forward to learning & hopefully being a contributor of something useful at some point.

Gary bends pipe a lot and he looked at the pic and said it would be easy even for a novice.

from Henryetta and welcome to the Okie thread.

I have a busy day ahead. My brother does a lot of scapping for work, and he has come across a deal he is scrapping an old house, and has said I can have whatever wood I want from it so I'm going to try and gather enough for my new chicken coop, one step closer to my NN's this spring! Woo Hoo.

Welcome to the new folks.
Sooner...waiting to hear your hospital report
P&B...happy belated birthday wishes...Hope is was a great day.
PocoPollo ...Nice pen
Guy..as usual..a good tip.
Carl...have you candled eggs lately.....hmmm. How are the Cochin eggs doing?

Hubby gets his stitches out and a new biopsy result today.

Lost a hen in the nest box yesterday morning. the last of the BLRW...Joy had started laying again and was doing great. She liked to sleep in the nest box instead of on the roost. She was a beautiful hen.

Red and Gracie got after a coyote this morning. Red got it down and had a few cuts from the battle. Weirdest looking coyote I've ever seen...really small, almost black and had a hunch back. Roger said he had seen it around the hay stack the past few days. It took off across the pasture towards the highway with the dogs in hot pursuit. Had to call them off.

I've been doctoring the little game hen Ginger..she has been sneezing. Giving her a homeopathic tincture and 14 of a Clovamax antibiotic every day for a few days. She is improving and back on her feed and water really well...nice poops again. She has been getting nesty for the past two weeks...still no egg yet.
