***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I read this on the Cochin thread . MO is close to us.

Hi Mopargal1972, and all other cochin lovers,
frow.gif

I just moved here to MO from Florida with all my sweet chickens. There was a wonderful facebook group there for Floridians called Chicken Swap of Florida. Instead of people waiting for a swap or having to hope a nearby person would have info on chickens, everyone shared info and swapped all year round. The administrator of that website has started Chicken Swap of Missouri for me on facebook and I am hoping to add as many members as she has (515 members) so that we can have as wonderful a group here in Missouri.

If you could join up on facebook, and pass this along to others that you know, I would be eternally grateful. I am just starting this group, and am looking forward to finding other chicken people in my new home state. :)

Thanks!

I personally think if you don't plan to hatch regularly then just use broodies. My foam worked good for a couple of years, I didn't have a problem regulating it or anything else but I wasn't using it over & over, just hatching a couple a times in a season.

Hey, Doodle. Yes, 400 is a lot. I'm not as ambitious as my friend Grady. I'll start slow and let it grow as demand grows. It's just nice having something to grow into. In the meantime my 80 or so hens are going to be very cozy in their big new home. I'll be sure to post plenty of pics when we get it home.

But I do have a good source for cheap feed, thanks to Michael D, jcatblum, and Grady. Mike found a cheap source (Carnegie co-op), Grady came up with a great recipe, and Catherine passed it on to me.

P&B, I should also mention that Grady is going to be Salatin's official tour guide for private tours of Polyface at $1,000 for a full day behind-the-scenes tour. He invited Erlene and I out for a free tour when he gets settled! How cool is that???

A tour of Polyface would be facinating, but at $1000 for a full day I am guessing they don't get many "tourists" just passing by and curious about the facility. I wonder how many people from the same group of folks can participate in the $1000 / day tour?

I was thinking the same thing really, I have a couple of large Styrofoam boxes and a couple of small dorm/apt sized fridges I was thinking the controls would retrofit in fairly well, I really just want to make them into hatchers and then could run my incubator more and have less issues with changing it for hatching when the time came

Buster are you looking to part with some of those by chance?

I have 6 foam incubators. I'm done with them. We are buying a real bator come spring.

I've got a lot of egg hatching in my future and want something reliable and easy to use. Almost idiot proof.

this was posted on a different forum, but since we are always looking for inexpensive building materials I wanted to pass this along. The ad is for 20 foot x 5 foot wooden pallets in the Tulsa area. I didn't realize pallets came in such a large size.
