***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I got everyone snugged down early tonight. The wind has picked up and it feels like a storm is on the way. I didn't have much time to draw today, but I did doodle some sunflowers, so I think maybe one part of the garden I put on my beehive will have singing sunflowers. I need to figure out what to do about the bottom portion of the image. I know blue sky works well to offset the flower heads, but the ground is still a problem. I cut away the parts I didn't like. Maybe what the ground needs is brown dirt and bunches of red strawberries.

I love the idea of painting it with flowers & such. Love your singing sunflowers~

Morning,

It's pitch black outside and still raining. I'm going to have a second cup of coffee and wait for sunup to feed and water. I don't think it's windy, but I really don't want to mess with rain gear and a flashlight.

Nana - A white picket fence would be great! I could paint a blue sky and white fence on all four sides and then paint flowers and trees over the top of the fence.

Kass - Do you plant strawberries and daisies in the same bed? Are they decent companions? I've had fewer problems with my strawberries if I plant borage in the same bed. I've heard that thyme is a good companion as well.

DH made it home, safe and sound. He had supper, read for a few minutes, and then went to bed early. He will probably sleep until noon. He took today off, knowing that he would be exhausted. He told me that there wasn't any television news coverage. How can the largest peaceful demonstration in the nation happen without any news coverage?

Joe, I know that this one came from the eggs she got from you at the green country swap...I know because we got eggs from you too the same day. She and I set the eggs on that Monday and kept up with each other and the hatches, she only lives a couple miles down the road...but it was her first hatch and she was real excited. I've seen the pics from eggs in the incubator until these...Maybe the lav bantam was catting around

dunno....

but lav is a resesive color so if it was a wopsy the chick would not hatch lav so it would have to be from lav to lav breeding i know the lav bantam amaraucanas are still in progect stage but i have hatched over 500 bantam amaraucanas from that same breeding pin NONE of them look like that the fact that she is lav say it all IF IT WHERE A BARN YARD CROSS " like some rude pepole have said " SHE WOULD NOT BE LAV so if she came from the lave bantam amaucana from me WITCH ARE PURE LAV BANTAM AMAUCANAS THEN WE HAVE A MUTATION OF SOME KIND or a overlaping resesive geens way back in the breeding from when they inserted the lav color

i have found my self no longer posting on the OKIE thread due to all the MEAN and RUDE coments that are beeing made there are 20 ways to skin a cat and just because someone dose things diferant or not the way someone elss would DOS THIS MEAN WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BAD MOUTH THEM OR TELL OTHER THEY ARE WRONG OR TRY TO FORCE PEPOLE TO BREED THERE BIRDS THE WAY THEY WOULD NO!!!!!!!!! it dos not

bfrancis you are not one of those pepole and there are a lot of other good peeps on this site but dont beleave everthing you read on here

Joe, I understand your feelings & you have a right to them but it would be better if you didn't bring this to the thread. This is what has gotten us shut down in the past. Everyone has a right to anything they want to believe but don't bring the fight to the board where everyone is going to suffer by our thread getting shut down.

My 2 Cents.

Poco, I'm very glad your DH has made it home safe & sound. I didn't hear anything about the demonstration & missed what it was about.

Today is going to be a rough day for me here at work & I hope it goes by fast. I was up most of the night not feeling well & can't wait to get home, I see an early bedtime in my future.

Went to see my bee friend yesterday, got alot of my "new" questions answered. He is excited for me & said my date of delivery was great. He also said he would call me & let me go with him if he gets a swarm call this year. I think he was the most excited about DD being interested & asking questions.

Pocco, I've never had much success w/ strawberries, but borage is a great companion for most things. I plan on companion planting w/ onions this year. From everything I've read onion family make excellent companions for strawberries and carrots. I have found some strawberries that come from seed in the Baker Creek catalog, I'm debating between those and regular plant starts.

We got a nice 1.5 inches of rain last night....slow soaking. Glad the temps were warm enough that it didn't freeze. The garden looks great. The hen run is wet so gave the girls their scratch inside the hen house.
Hubby disappeared outside somewhere.
My replacement Cochin eggs should get here today or tomorrow....coming all the way from Iowa.
Contacted the seller and he is sending 16 eggs!
Going to work on taxes today.

We got some rain last night...which was welcomed! It rained so much our stone path is a water fall this morning, lol

Is this a dry stack path with a concrete top or did you concrete them in place?.
We have been looking at slowing down our creek water by making rock berms every 50 -75 feet or so. Should back up small pools of water for a while too. The water runs so quickly in the spring rains that it can knock a calf off its feet.
