***OKIES in the BYC III ***

The females make a 2-syllable screaming noise and the males make the 1-syllable screeches. I happen to like the males better also. I've got 5 and just posted yesterday looking for someone to take 3 of them. I've got 1 caught and will get the others caught ASAP. They're definite flock birds though so I'm considering trying to get ahold of all 5 and giving all 5 away. They're SUPER noisy (mainly the girls), would you want 5 of something that noisy? They're awesome at midnight alarms but too noisy for me with all the roosters I've already got here.

And when they get a drink of water and throw their little heads back staggering backwards off balance

One of the reasons I'm so undecided on taking the broody Cochin girls eggs away-I so love babies.

We must have come from the same bolt of cloth!

Thanks Bill!

Hey - is anyone going to be hatching guineas this year? My folks want some but have had horrible luck trying to hatch them so I want to gift them with some keets this spring...

Had a friend tell me that guinea eggs are hard to candle so he takes a scrubbie to them and rubs off the spots before putting them into the incubator. Says it makes them much easier to candle at 10 days. He said most people don't know those spots come off and because the shells are so hard, it does no damage. I've never hatched keets so never tried it.

Thanks Bill!

. My DD12 hatches keets. She pays for the feed & cares for the birds so she gets to keep the $$$$ from selling hatches. We hatch out fancy colors & common. They are not laying yet but mating season has began. They are chasing each other around nonstop! I will post when we set some eggs. We have about 50 guineas so we will be hatching every week once they start laying. Guineas are noisy, but with plenty of space & bugs to chase we don't hear them often. If I leave them in the pen they scream everytime the wind blows.

Thanks jcatblum! I know my Mom wants some fancy colors but will take anything she can get, so I would appreciate knowing how much your DD charges for keets.

Hey Cowboy you asked about pricing eggs a few pages back . we sell the large for 1.50 and the exlarge and jumbo for 2.00 the medium and small we keep and eat outselves and some go to the hounds. I know they are worth more but around here i guess most are to poor or to tight to give what they are worth...and at least it helps buy a little feed and anything is better than nothing i guess

She ask $3 for reg & $4 for fancy-- as far as fancy goes some we don't have as many of so I never know what we will get until it hatches, should have slate, buff dundotte, brown, chocolate, bronze, royal purple, violet, sky blue & maybe coral blue-- but last yr I only managed 3 coral blue & a few buff dundotte, so I don't know what this yr will be. Plus we have the normal white, pearl & lavender. I am guessing she will want to add even more colors to our flock this yr. originally dh said she could only have 60 birds total, but he let her pass 60 long time ago. She loves them & takes care of them so we do our best to encourage her.
