***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Coral that turkey was just laying in the bucket? No cage? I don't want to be near a pair of pretty turkeys @ the auction this spring! DD saw several at Michaels the other day & she was thinking we needed to bring some home. They were displaying their feathers & shaking their stuff. She really enjoyed watched them flirt. I don't have an empty pen for turkeys!!!! DH is out building a 2nd goat pen now, to seperate the buckling & weather from our does. No time to do a turkey pen! For now we will just have to enjoy our wild turkeys we see every few wks or so.

will have to miss the Newcastle auction tonight due to having to attend a big fund raiser for my wifes work so my phone better be burning up with pics of some birds. Especially LF and Standard Cochins. Light and Buff Brahmas will work also, prefer hens. lol Ya'll have fun tonight.

looks like a good sale in coweta.

had a great sale in vinita, evidently prices were about perfect for the crowd. i was kept buissy stacking the sold cages, and i mean buissy!
very few multiple item buyers, most were singles.

less animals than last month, but still a real good turn out, less "merchandise" but WAY more buyers! gonna have to rearrange the bleachers next month.

had a few people that didnt hear the rules, but fortunately they were ok when they realized their mistake.

Just a reminder to all BYCers. There will not be an auction in Blanchard on Feb 25 due to the local spring stock show being held at barn, Our next auction will be Mar 10th.

Hope to see some of you at other sales before then. Be sure to support your local youth with their projects.

Well I was planning on going to the auction tonight, especially to see if I could snatch up a few of mjs Cochins, but it looks like that's not in the cards for me this time. Hope everyone that goes has a great time as usual and have a bit of lasagna for me!

Hey Jackie! I don't know if you'll see this either but wanted to say hi!

Morning all, I need some ideas/help on a turkey, cockrel and rooster problem. The cockrel has been challenging the alpha rooster for a few weeks now ( to be expected ), the alpha rooster had kept the 8 month old cockrel in his place until the middle of this week. Now the tom turkey has joined in and has enlisted the help of one of the turkey hens to gang up on the alpha rooster. The poor alpha rooster has gotten beaten up, had his comb and back of his neck pecked and bloodied quiet a bit, he was found cowering/hiding in the laying shed, they have been keeping him off of the feed and water. So far the turkey tom and the cockrel have been caught and put in seperate pens with their own feed and water, the alpha rooster is out free ranging with all of the hens (25 of them, I know he can't cover all of the hens efficently) and the two turkey hens. What further steps do I need to take ? Was planning on leaving the cockrel and turkey tom penned up for about a week( wanted to change their standing in the flock) and go from there. Do I need to trim thethe cockrel and turkey toms beaks ? De spur the two Or do I need to let them all out togather and let them finish working it out? I realy do not want to loose the alpha rooster or let this type of behaviour continue, as I wonder if this kind of ganging up will continue with the other flock mates as time goes on. They have had some pretty nasty fights. I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
Here are two photos from the Coweta sale. I didn't take pictures of the adjacent barn area that was filled with cages. I wish now that I'd taken pictures of the peacocks and the big cochins that were near the back of the barn.

Can't say I've ever seen a wet turkey just hanging out in a tub before lol

I'm glad you had a good night :) I know you were planning and looking forward to it. I'd have loved to go just to help out if it weren't so far away from Guthrie.
The lady with the goat and the bunnies hits a bit close to home. We went to an auction 6 yrs ago in a Mazda MX6 and I bought a 6 mo old colt-oops. He was so dang skinny and in need of groceries-I couldn't just leave him there and no one was bidding on him! I think I paid around $20 for him ? Kept him 6 months and he got huge and shiny and gave him to the guy at the feed store. The guy still has him and says it's the smartest horse he ever had lol I don't even like horses but he was soooo skinny.
My Royal Palm turkeys (2 hens, 1 boy) should start laying soon. Jcat, if your DD wants to hatch some eggs I can save some for her lol These 3 have been the most wonderfully sweet and friendly birds since I got them at 1 day old. I love my turks. The Royal Palms are so beautiful.

The Coweta auctiona was a blast! It was great to see everyone and Coral it was such a pleasure to meet you.
My lovely new hen "sweetie" is getting her own flock pen today! Hubby is outside building it now! After a short term she will introduced to some more salmon ladies and then I'll bring in Simon. That way she is the first of that pen and she can be the dominant hen. I was so fortunate to ask on the BYC and to find you Coral. She is just lovely, just like her mother! Amazing, when I think of retired school teachers I have never thought of someone as pretty as yourself.

Any Mac users out there? Mine has the CD/DVD drive in the side of the monitor, right next to the memory card slot. I was rushing and didn't look, and ended up with my camera memory card stuck in the CD/DVD drive. DH said we'd have to go to the Mac store, but I improvised a tool using an old credit card: I cut a 1" X 2" rectangle from one corner of the card, leaving me with an L shaped piece. I used that to fish the memory card out of the slot: almost like picking a lock. I would have died of embarassment if I'd had to take it to a repair shop.

Lisa - Next time we're in the same place at the same time we'll have to sit and visit. I met a lot of new people last night; some of them first-time auction buyers. I also got a chance to talk to people who have been to the sale in Stilwell. It was good to connect with familiar faces and learn a few new ones.

I cleaned the brooder I bought at the sale and set it up in the barn. I've got babies in it now that the temperature is stabelized. I'm going to suspend some chains and S hooks from the barn ceiling so that I can adjust the height of the brooder lamps easily. I think the chicks will get used to the wire quickly. The big metal trays under the brooder pens will be easy to wash. I'm thinking I may paint them with a rust-proofer when this first batch moves out. I'm also considering adding a 2 X 4 frame with wheels at one end so that I can move the brooder outside when the temperature in the barn is too high for the babies.

Morning everyone!

Looks like I have been convinced to attend the auction tonight... I am in the market... So I am going to support my addiction...

Hope to see everyone tonight...

Any Ideas of what will be there?

I'm loving that brooder idea. That beats the rubbermaid tubs I used last year with my Cochin and Silkie babies. I'm trying to think how to make a brooder (in case-fingers crossed!) any of these Fav bantam babies hatch at Carl's. I've got 2 different sized stock tanks, I've got rubbermaid tubs, I've got wood, wire, about everything I need but I didn't have a basic plan til I saw yours. How nice would that be to have a wire bottom and not have to worry about them eating the shavings and stepping in poop?? I'm on my way to google brooders!
The computer thing reminds me of my 72 yr old mother (who lost count and thought she was 73 at her last birthday lol). She'd gotten one of those mini-cd's to install for something she'd bought (printer or something). She was feeling all proud of herself thinking she could install something for once without having to have me do it, she stuck that mini cd right straight into the floppy slot lol It's still there, she never could dig it out so she called the company to find out what she did wrong instead of asking me and risking me laughing
