***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good evening friends of chickens, I have been a member for a bit but haven't had much to say. Didn't have any chickens, now I do. Two, yes only two, real city back yard chickens. I probably won't have a lot to say but know that I am lurking and enjoying the information you all share.

Welcome to the thread!

Welcome to the thread...lurking is good, but pictures are better since they speak thousands of words..

Welcome to the forum, what have you got? and what are you in for, good looking birds to enjoy or egg layers? Help us help you (get more chickens that is) Once you think you have enough we will hold a refresher course on chicken math, its a little different than any math you have ever done before.
If your in teh city and need a quite docile non-flighty egg layer type bird you might consider a bantam wyandotte.

Used to be a Co-Worker there LOL sure am glad I don't do that anymore, I was in there this evening would have spoke but you were pretty busy..

I knew the black ones were sex links I was thinking the other two were something else though, I think I may look into them or the Americauna to put in with Red still a ways off from having to decide still

Nana beat me to that one I hear a lot of people say that they worm with crushed red pepper I have always heard that the pepper in their feed will stop them from going broody, I had almost a hundred laying hens of different types some years ago and when I ran out of cages to put broody hens in to break them up I was telling a fellow about it he said to sprinkle some crushed red pepper in the feed and they won't go broody I had forgot about that it was something my Grandmother had said also so I did, that was the first year that we had the hens and sold them all after the second season but never had another one go broody so I'm thinking it really does work or so it did for me, I won't worm with it cause I don't mind a few broody's once in a while LOL
I can tell you from personal experience that red peppers do not discourage broody hens. Of course keep in mind I have some of the most militate broodies in the world, so it may just be that, but I always put red pepper in their feed and even last summer when it was 110 degrees outside I had 4 hens setting, even when I took the eggs out from under them.

Blanchard auction is on the second and fourth saturdays, Newcastle is on the 1 st and 3 rd saturdays.

Just remember Newcastle is not having an auction this Saturday though, because the building is being used for something else. Honestly, and this is just my opinion, a chicken auction is much more important than whatever else is going on. Of course, we all have our priorities.

Welcome! -
I like that phrase; friends of chickens, lots of us around here.
Where do you live and do you want to join us for fellowship at P.O.O.P.S. and/or NEOCS?

Ksane, the ants found my dubias, I have the table legs sitting in oil filled soda bottle bottoms that should fix the issue.
Haha! The things one has to do to keep our 'exotic beetles' safe!
You guys, they're not the pest kind of cockroaches, they're like junebugs only bigger. You guys probably don't like bats either, do you? lol
Glad to know the pepper doesn't always work before I tried it. I don't think ANYthing will stop the 3 I've got trying to sit now.
