Thanks Six for your help. I'm letting it rest for now to see if the tetracycline, mash and liquids will kick in. It's in an icecream bucket with shreaded paper for a nest to hold it upright. I massaged the throat and looked down it's mouth and could find nothing. There is no gurgling either. If it was a calf I'd have no trouble tubing it or giving shots..this baby is as big s my double fists.....

What do you have in your fridge in the barn as far as cattle meds go? Any Pen or Pen-G? If so give it just a couple of dropsof it with a 3cc syringe. Give the shot on the left side of the breast or in the upper thigh. Sounds like resp. infection.

Okay We have Pen...didn't know how much to give or where so was afraid to try. I have diabetic needles (31 guage) wouldn't those be better than a 20 guage?

Sometimes when the semis would come it I would go over and help give shots. We had a backpack that looked like a sprayer connected to a syringe that would auto refill as it was used. We would get around 1000 pee-wees every three days.

But giving my first injection to a week old chick had me running a cold sweat.

They would be perfect, just be careful about just how far you stick it into the chick. Might go at an angle to be safe.

The pen will also go through that small a needle hard so be prepared for that.

LOL, who cares what people think! I had a great time & thought the same thing about meeting inside next time!! Thank goodness my halo was hiding my horns today! I did get dried out & everything went great at my meeting. I am thankful for so many things today!

Robin right now I have two hens sharing the mothering duties with the two chicks & setting on the rest of the eggs so I won't be trying to take it away for alittle while. It gets around pretty good hopping on one leg & using it's wing. It is pretty neat to watch. I will let ya know when I get a chance to get close enough to get a pic.

PS: Orscelins has chicks on sale right now. Some are 1.00 while others range up from there.

Rebecca, What color are Meg's chicks? Monday 3 Mille Fleur x Mottle cochins and one of Meg's eggs hatched. I got one black and white and three very yellow chicks! The MottledX MF eggs were from the Mottle hen you now have and the dark Mille Fleur roo that Suzi now has. I sure did not expect their chicks to be wheaten colored. It will be very fun to see how these chicks come out.
Today I candled the 27 eggs due to hatche this Monday - all but 1 were fertile, and 2 stopped developing early. Some of these eggs were kind of old so I don't expect a good hatch rate but hoping for some as they were some of the last eggs from my best roo.
My giant Buff cochin has started laying and one egg was as big as a goose egg and had a double yolk - delicious.
