***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok the roo I pm's you about the other night is doing good. He is eating again & standing but doesn't seem to be putting weight on one leg but I can't find anything wrong with the leg, could it just be continued weekness? This is the same side that he was laying on & moving in the wrong direction two days ago. He isn't on any meds right now either. His wattles feel very warm & are a very nice bright red. He is inside too.

We use the same set up when we give shots at round-up...although we only ran 65 calves thru this first go round.

Gave the chick 20 units from a 1 ml insulin syringe....about two drops.

With calves/cows you give pennicillin every day for 4 days or LA 200 every 3rd day. Should the chick get another shot of pennicillin tomorrow if it makes it to tomorrow?

As long as it is regular Pen that is what I would do. Pen-G is a timed release med that we usually give every other day. LA-200 is also a handy chicken med but I don't know the dosage on it.

Thank you for all your help. Will give another shot tomorrow same time. Also when I gave this shot, the baby had a normal poop so hopefully we've caught this in time...

It is going to take him time to be able to fully use the leg again. It does not take long for the muscles to weaken when not being used. So I found out personally. LOL

Keep him on a higher proyien feed to help him build the muscle back up and give him a little room so he can excercise.

Check the bottom of that foot over very good too for any sores that could signal bumblefoot.

Right now he is in a very small cage that he can't move too much but now that he is able to stand & move I will get him in something bigger but wanted to wait to move him outside till the rain stopped plus I have to do something with the pen he goes in before he can return to it.

Checked the foot & leg, his skin is snow white so I am able to see no sores or even off colored spots, will trim his toe nails tomorrow. I think he is getting alittle spoiled as he ate almost a whole can of tuna the first day, now he is eating (22% game bird) his food & some bread. Have an egg cooling for him now.

Do you think I should be giving any meds? I haven't because his eyes are clear & the comb is red.....

Just checked the "Unibomber" auction over at the GSA auction site. The Hoodie and sunglasses he wore are sitting at $20,000. All proceeds from the auction go to his victims.

As long as he is doing well I would hold off on meds. Watch the droppings as they are the first indication of sickness.
