***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a little gauge we bought @ the pet store in the reptile section. I think if we fill the water tray full it only last about 3 days. When I hatched in the Eco I put a wet washcloth or sponge on the bottom & it would keep the humidity well. Only time I ever had to adjust the temp on the Eco is when I took it to school for the class to use. Think the air was blowing on it & made the temp fluctuate. If you order the incubator you are going to use to learn to part with some chicks! But if you set them & know you are hatching for a certain person or to only keep a certain color it makes it easier!
You will love the Eco!

My hubby is telling me the same thing.....

I've been out in the garden today digging up the everlasting runner grass roots to prepare beds for planting, but got rained out, so I guess I don't have any choice but to do housework.

I keep checking my email to see if my NN chicks have been shipped yet, so far they haven't.

I did get all my tires buried in both runs I think Gary is going to get my fencing today so next nice days I can make my shade trellis for the chickens shaded summer runs.

Anybody know how to contact SJarvis? The link in her signature does not work. From what I've read at BYC I know they're in Shawnee, and they have cochins. I'm just looking for a yard chicken, not for show, so I would certainly be happy with a less-than-perfect specimen.

Shoot, don't ask these guys or you'll come home with more chicks than you can fit in your car lol
Good luck finding one :)
Evidently that goes with the territory... silly me, asking for someone here to enable me.

Hm... I forget what the measurements are supposed to be now..... right direction -> Atwoods -> home with at least 6 -> bring any extras you decide not to keep to POOPS :)

Definitely a good idea, will have to swing by there.

It's going to hard to find one little pullet for your three week old chick...not all are easy to sex. You might have to get several and then keep the girls and either eat or rehome the boys.

Thanks, I kinda figured it was a tall order, but don't know if I don't try, right?

I'm heading out into the rain... love to listen to it, love that we're getting it, don't wanna go out in it!

Kass why are you burring tires? I was reading a Jerry Baker gardening book earlier that said to plant you squash in tires & you wouldn't get squash bugs. We hauled off 2 trailer loads of tires when we bought this place, guess I should have saved them.

Carl and Stephanie no longer have cochins. They got out of the large fowl. I have their roo and have some babies about the age of your little roo. They are cross bred Cochin/Australorp but I don't know what sex they are.
If yu don't find what you are looking for at Atwoods, send me a PM and we can try to figure something out. I have placed a stuffed toy and a mirror in with a single chick and that helps until a buddy can be found.

So good to see you back. Hoe your mom heals quickly.

Some gardeners say you should add (amend) things like peat moss, manure, or compost to the soil in the planting hole. I've found the trees do bette rin our clay soil if the compost is used on top of the planting mound as mulch.

POCO sorry to hear about your RIR hen.

ahh, so I can return this big thing of peat moss I bought this weekend

There's always people looking to get rid of tires, I bet it wouldn't be hard to replace them. I'd bring one to POOPS to get you started again, but now you've got me intrigued about using it for my squash

peat moss can be added to your veggie and flower gardens to help hold moisture in the soil....I mix peatmosss with the hay under the roost and it helps with amount of uric acid in the poops....I compost everything from the hen house along with the hay and manure form the cow lot.

I am putting the tires in groups of 3 in the chicken run and am going to put a fence "tube" around each one and then across the top. I am going to grow vining type plants in them ( indeterminate tomatoes, vining squash, cukes, beans, maybe even some malibar spinach) the plan is they are going to grow up in the fence tube and on top to provide shade for the chickens during the heat of summer this year. This is the heat of the summer run for the chickens, so they won't be in it when the plants are first planted and most vulnerable, I'm hoping the fence tube will provide enough protection from the chickens for the plants not to be ruined, but enough access to eat the insects.

This is not an original idea of mine, but borrowed and adapted from another BYCer.
