carl, i will call you tomorrow morning sometime, count what you got and figure me a price. realy need blacks, bb reds, red pyle columbian, blue reds, hens or cocks either one. wouldnt mind having a pair or 2 of opal's, i have 1 kid that is good with birds that would like some.

i have scrounged out about 20 pairs of birds right now, and have about 12 kids wanting birds, so i hope i have some left next week!

these kids cost me more than my own did!

Got my order from Ideal in - love it!! I know not the best quality birds but still so cute - 20 little bantams, 2 runner ducks, 3 geese, and some East India ducks - all way to cute. So I think at the moment I have few birds (adding to the chick and keets and ducks I had....)

Still looking at some peacocks - just not sure now after reading and everything that space would not be an issue - I have a city lot... a big one but just a city lot.. so that might be a no go. Already the keets - 1 week old - are noisy buggers, nothing beats their sound when they are scared, worried, hungry, tired, or just alone - or strange if they are all together.... love them already.

Ready for Blanchard in two weeks - will it happen right before Easter? or do we have to wait - I hope not but either way I am excited and ready. Getting shed built this week, finished the large coop(10x12), finished the quail coop (8x8) and working on goose and duck quarters, fencing upgrade from wire to stockade, and finishing out the garden. and If we can get rain all the better! Got 13 trees in the ground this week, and most of the veggies, the blackberries cleaned for the new year, stawberries planted, and 200 or so flowers all grown from seed over the winter. All in all got a lot done this week but a busy week coming up.

Question - when should my hens start laying - they are one week shy of three months old - still growing teens I know - just wondering when I might go out there and find the first egg!

Come on by tomorrow, I have a young matched pair for his birthday.

You are a serious enabler - getting folks hooked chickens when they are young.

Thanks for hatching those chicks! Looks like my young Mille fleur roo isn't fertile. Those eggs are from before I plucked his butt though.
Getting 3 Self-blue chicks is better than I could ever imagine. At this generation (F2) 75% of the chicks should be Black. I gave you 7 eggs and I get 3 Self-blues!!!!!!!!!!
There may be a black among the 6 other chicks but I think 5 of them are from my Black Mottled roo, the "old guy". His chicks chould be Black Mottled/ Mille Fleur cross or Black or Blue mottled. I'm very happy, the old guy, Pappy, has great type and will add alot to my Mille Fleurs.
Chickens are so fun!

Hey Robin! Look what I came home with tody! I found it at a flea market,It was the only one left. I figured if it was a male it would be good but if it was a female that would be good too. Win win either way. Well it tested out by the string to be a female so your lady will have a girl friend to keep her company! I think its only a day old,its pretty small. And so cute! Can you make out the little tuft on her head? Ive never raised a baby goose before so wish me luck!

It has been a rough couple of weeks for my family. Three weeks ago, my son in law lost his grandmother, to whom he and my daughter have been very close and had been caring for over the past 5 years. Thursday, his mother (her daughter) died. Friday, I got the news my nephew has double pneumonia and a staph infection, is in ICU and not expected to make it.

Sorrows come in threes.

So sorry, I can't think of many harder things too deal with.

Jim,
I will take a count in the morning of what I have that I can spare and what I need to get rid of. Call me when your ready in the morning. I can help out with the columbian, Birchen, silver blue, Brassy Back, Blue wheaton, and Opal. How ever there are some Opal that will not leave and some that need to leave.

I was just looking at my Self-blue babies again and at least one has yellow feet! That is very important if we want the color to be recognized by the APA. The experienced breeder are planning for 2018. I just hope I can help.
I should post pics of my progress. The roo I got from Grace sure improved the type allot. My foundation Self-blue hens hardly look like Cochins and they have black feet. The F1s are all black and I got only one pullet. Her type isn't as good as the F1 roo (his is almost as good as his Dad's) but she lays 6 out 7 days a week.

Today has been a bad day for me, on my way to work got a call that my baby NN chicks were at the post office, but I had already left for work. The hatchery didn't let me know they were coming, even though I called earlier this week to find out. I ordered 15, when Gary opened the box at the PO there were 10 dead and 2 more nearly dead. I called the hatchery and left a message so we'll see how that goes they said they would replace dead ones. I am not as miffed about the dead ones as the lack of communication. Last time I heard I still have 5 alive, but he doesn't think one or two will live. I researched this hatchery before ordering and got nothing but positive comments about customer service and quality of chicks.

What hatchery was it? :( Sorry hope the company makes good on it

Looks like you has some crafty skills! Straight looks nice. I will try it out just have to measure the rim to get the numbers the right size.
Kass I would be very upset not knowing that my chicks had been shipped. I doubt them being at the post office a few extra hours caused that great of a loss IMO.

I have no crafty skills, I just like to play with images on the computer :p IRL I can do nothing

The rule of thumb is 6 months, isn't it? Mine wouldn't ever start till 8-9 months, just in time for winter to set in and for them to stop
