***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Are ya'll going to force me to entertain myself?? You know that could be dangerous.......

LOL but it could be interesting to watch. Hubby just text and we don't have to pick up the chicks tonight so now I gotta figure out what to make for dinner. We have already done chilli, and beans and cornbread this week so now gotta think of another easy meal, lol. I am thinking enchilada casorolle.

I don't even have my tomatoes in yet, lol. I have been trying to find time to get some in but never enough hours in the day! Maybe this weekend, if I can get out in the garden, I have only been out their once this week but my peas are coming up nicely and greenbeans should be peaking out soon. It is hard to get much done when you only have about 2 hours after work to get stuff done and get ready for the next day of work. Don't know what I would do without hubby. He just asks "what needs to be done for the birds tomorrow" and it magically gets done before I get home or he helps me get it done when I get there. He is even going to do the feed run tomorrow so I don't have to do it after work.
I am so behind in getting my gardening done. Have not even finished putting poop and leaves in the garden yet. Oh well maybe I will do a fall garden.

I have at least one chick hatched under one of my broody hens hoping that the rest of the eggs will hatch, I only poked under her till I found the first one there could be more she wasn't liking being messed with today so gave her a break LOL I got to show off my little farm today everyone was on their best behavior except Goosey and he was in a mood I guess giving the stink eye to our guest and even biting and I never saw him do that before I guess he's starting to think of himself as a goose these days...

Goosey was trying to bite someone???? I just can not believe it. Goosey is always so sweet. See I should have picked him up and loved on him then he would be acting right. I am sorry!

So many folks are hatching babies. Congrats to all the new parents.

My silkied Serama hen, the one who had to see the vet a week or so ago when she was egg bound, just laid her first egg since seeing the doctor. It was another soft shelled egg, but at least she laid it this time, and it didn't get stuck like before. I don't know why she keeps having the soft shelled eggs. She gets the same feed that all the other grown up chickens get - Purina All Flock with oyster shell on the side. Maybe she's not eating the oyster shell, therefore not getting enough calcium to form hard shells on her eggs. The vet recommended that I let her go broody to keep her from laying more eggs but she hasn't shown any inkling yet to try to sit for awhile now.

All but two of my smooth Serama hens have all gone broody again. Together they're sitting on about 18 or so eggs. They are some stubborn ladies. I tried (not very hard, though) to keep them from sitting but they insisted. They're all piled on top of each other like before. When one gets up to eat and poop, the others argue over who's going to steal the eggs. There should be some babies hatching in about two more weeks.

Add some DE to her feed for a week, that will toughen up those egg shells.

The roo was close to Red Brown, the hen was more of an off gold lac, but really nice.

Ack, the electricity is faultering and the duck eggs are due to hatch today :( and I have to go work so I can't stay and hover over it. Hope it just keeps going out for a little bit at a time. I should have gone out and saved my seedlings, but I'm just going to let them be, if they drown oh well. I over worked myself here yesterday and don't have the energy to run back and forth to get them all in the house, especially while trying to stay quiet and not wake anyone else up. Why can't rain happen on cue??

Wrap some blankets around your incubator to hold the heat in. That is what I do.

Chicken pop pie! We were having crockpot bbq chicken but I forgot to start that this morning since DD was in a hurry to leave so she could take snacks to school during testing.

Hmmm I do have everything for that. I may have to make that instead. Who knows maybe hubby will think of something before I get there and have that started by time I get home

Ha I was hoping for that last night but nope nothing when we got home from practice.

I am thinking pop pie or chili since it is cool out.

24 Days to POOPS

Hello OkiePeople. I am just stopping in to say hello. I am working on a work project that will keep me away from BYC for most of next week. After then I'll start bugging people for names for POOPS name tags.

Nanakat - I will look to see what I have to bring to the Raffle and let you know.

Monty - do you still have the raffle tickets? Do you have little paper bags?

Carl Jarvis - I am planning to bring you some mint so it can take over your yard, too...

Muesky - I am looking for keets of any and all colors (Jcatblum's DD is hatching some, I think...!)

Jcatblum - Love your idea of having little contests at POOPS.

Now I'm going back to try to catch up. Hope everyone got a little rain but not too much...there may be more coming.
