***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Prayers &

for everyone.

Afternoon Folks! Well it rained buckets here starting around 4:30 am this morning. Just started raining again but let me tell you I am not complaining one bit. After last summer I am almost paranoid we are going to have another dry summer. The Farmers Almanac keeps saying it is going to be dry but I am just not going to let it. Sending vast amounts of rain mojo out there to encourage the rain. Hope it works.

Have a good time last night at Blanchard. Not a lot birds or people but hung out with some BYCers and that is always awesome. Did acquire some blue and black ameraucana chicks for a price I was willing to pay and some stuff I can use for fairly cheap. I am telling you I am going to start hitting the junk shops and thrift stores and buying chicken stuff. I swear any chicken stuff they have at the auction goes for outrageous prices, more then new and definitely more then antique prices.

Well I have chili and quiches to make for meals this week. Going to have chili dogs.

Oh and the deal about eggs, they are actually considered a super food and are some of the best sources for protein, calcium and are low in fat. Plus they are just so darn good. Specially pickled, which I now have an addiction to. Yummy!

Have a good day, everyone! Don't forget to send me a pm if you have any POOPS wants/offers or you need to change you postings on the list.

20 days til POOPS!

20 Days to POOPS

So sorry to hear about Woodward. Do we have any members there that were affected?
Had my first varmint kill last night since we moved here. I am sure it was either a coyote or a coon. It pulled Robins silkie hen thru the cage and ate her. I feel it was a coyote because it ate everything and only left a pile of feathers. Sorry about this Robin,I will find you some replacements. Theses silkies refused to get on the roost and always set by the side of the cage,I just never expected a varmint after all this time. Guess I need to get me another outside dog!
We are in Franklin ,Tn today at a sports complex watching the granddaughter ply volleyball. They are in second place for their group now.

So it turns out the German Shepard isnt good with birds, so she won't be staying.
While looking in the pets section on criagslist saw someone in Edmond giving away 10 red stars & someone in Ducan giving away 2 ducks.
You know after Easter lots of ducks & chicks need homes.

When they get a little bigger I pull the cage out and just leave them in the tub. I stick in a baking dish for them to play in and it all just washes away. So much easier than towels or bedding! I might do that jug thing till they are big enough for that, thanks!

something i do with my waterbirds is to get a gallon milk jug and cut a hole in the side big enough for them to get their heads in and play with it since they need it deep enough to wash their beaks, but limits the splash zone- i always hate tossing any hatching eggs in case somebody is in there

I don't have an excuse...totally fooled me.

Me too

Oh, Wayne, I'm so sorry :-( They were both so beautiful.

JohnorEm, thanks. A little too far for me from Guthrie probably but I can at least call and find out price and get a ballpark figure. I don't know if it's something I could ever do, but I want the information.

Christina, sorry about the Shepherd. I'd have been surprised if she *had been good with birds. Everytime you talk about your Pyr it makes me miss all mine so bad.

Well got all the birds settled in after the storms last night. I won't complain about the rain what so ever. Just wished I hadn't stayed up till 4AM to find out it was only going to rain, lol. We sorted through the chicks and figured out all the ones we will be selling this next week. Got them all listed, they are culls from my Marans if anyone needs some just egg layers these would be good for that. Also thinking about taking the pups to Newcastle auction in hopes of finding them homes. They are all eating solid food and the momma is doing her best to wean them. Need to find her a home as well, she chased birds once and hubby shot the shotgun over her head and she hasn't tried it again, lol. I will even help pay for her to be spayed if someone wants her. She is a lab mix of some sort. The pups are going to be big, not sure how she managed to carry 8, lol. Poor thing she deserves a good home after being dumped.

Well gotta get back to cleaning brooders, a never ending job, haha. Hope everyone dries out a bit today.

All of these chicks came from Buckeye eggs. I assumed the dark yellow one is the only one close to being correct. The guy that brought them got his birds from Ideal. He said the roo came from atwoods & he bought pullets from Ideal. Atwoods birds all come from Ideal I think. I saw Strombergs also has buckeyes. As long as they are good egg layers I am fine with them, I didn't have high hopes when I bought the eggs @ the auction.
