***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hiya Everyone I sold my old truck yesterday the buyer came today and got it, when we moved the truck found one of my Muscovy ducks sitting on a big clutch of eggs hidden under the truck so I set up some blocks and a cover to keep her hidden she never even moved just watched me while I set about getting her protected like she knew what I was doing and approved of all the activity for anyone that's met this little hen she is Mildred (Millie) she is just a pet I can't wait to see what her babies turn out like I got some of the drakes from P&B and some from OkCarla Millie came from some babies I got last POOPS from OkCarla
Got some good rain here between 4:30 and 5:30 I woke up to the thunder that sounded like a train at first I thought it was a tornado but it was just so much lightning the rumbling was just nonstop for a while, I sure hope everyone was spared damage from all the storms.
Now that I've actually got some junk cleared out of the front yard I need to pick up some more and fence off a space to plant the tomato's I got last night I have 10 acres and it always feels like I have no place to plant things LOL
I am blaming Michael for causing me to bring home more stuff than I intending from Blanchard LOL I was asking him something and he says put your hand up you need these, and he raised my hand and hauled off 3 televisions, I still don't know if they work or not but told Jerry if they don't I may be the only person in the state to have chickens living inside of old TVs they are huge! I don't even have a TV and didn't watch it when I did I just hardly ever take the time and when I did I hated to sit through all the commercials just to watch a show or movie so nowadays I just watch movies on-line or download them it's so much better this way, I don't know what I would do if any of these televisions work other than try to find someone to come get them LOL Well I do have an old playstation but I'm still on the wagon it was a 12 step program I think that buying a wii is the 13th step and I'm still holding out :)

The rain finally stopped, and the wind is barely noticeable. It's eerie, as if more bad weather is coming and the quiet is meant to lure me back outside without my raincoat. I've got two sopping wet jackets drying in the pantry. Someone needs to invent a rain coat that has big, retractable sleeves that will cover feed buckets but not get in the way.

I like this one, but the sleeves have elastic.

instead of retractable arms, I cut the corner out of a layena bag (like dogfood or cattle mineral) in an arc curve so it makes a cone. Then you can slip that over the bale of your bucket as you carry it to the pens....makes a nice "umbrella" for the bucket...the corner rolls down in your had and pads the bale.
I also use that same cone shape on feeders hanging outside...cut a tiny hole, slip the chain or wire holding the hanging feeder thru the hole, tape with duct tape or electrical tape and it acts like a cover over the feeder....keeps out water and birds don't roost on it.

Just came in from a tour of the farm, spotting poke spots for picking on Tuesday. Looks like the drought got many of the "old" spots from last year. But we have enough brush piles that will have enough to can for this year. Will pick and clean on Tuesday since I have a doctor appointment on Monday for the heart stress test.

A little cool for a drive at first but we were both pulling off our jackets as we drove around the pastures. Lots of watr in the creeks and several pastures had standing water. The last pond to fill up is now overflowing.

Lucy and Goosey met us at the gate on our way back to the house demanding their portion of scratch and corn. We have had this one pair of wild geese come for about 12 years now. They haven't set up a nest yet or lost one...but they are hanging around the pond nearest to the house this year. She looks to have a bun in the oven so I hope to see little goslings next month....

Picked our first strawberries this morning...about a cup. Usually don't pick those until after May 1st....hope this means the rest of the garden produce will be as "fruitful".

Sounds like everyone had a good time at the auctions.
Oh...one more bloom...this one is Mother Earth...the other was definitely Beverly Sills (the lighter paler version)

How is everyone? Thought I would Pop in and say hello before the next 5 days kick me in the tail.. Hope all weathered the storms ok, and as the week continues. I like the rain for spring we need it badly, but the severe storms I could live without, I don't like to worry about how all of our friends are.

The other was definitely NOT Beverly Sills, which is a beautiful, solid, ruffled pink with no other color. There are sooooo many thousands of irises it is nearly impossible to identify them without having known definitely what their names were when you planted them. You can't always trust the ones sent to you or bought from iris gardens, as occasionally two clumps will end up growing together and the wrong one might be dug. People also bring iris blooms to shows to match them with blooms in the show, which usually results in incorrect names. There are irises so distinctive that you can identify them, but that's a rare situation. If I hadn't let my flower beds grow up with so many weeds and poison ivy, I'd have a real show. I still have more than 150 named varities each of irises and daylilies, but you can't see many of them for the weeds!

Hi everyone! Question. I mentioned my two chicks had pasty butt. Well the Ameraucana is not that bad. But I picked up my silkie to was it this morning and its butt is bald. The whole back end. I'm so confused. These four babies are in their own brooder everything is clean and they get fresh everything every day. What am I doing wrong???

I think it's time to fix up the big chicks brooder with something to roost on because the black Ameraucana was flying up to the cord hanging down to the heat lamp and sitting on it. I got it moved so it wouldn't accidentally pull the lamp down on top of the others. It is officially my favorite chick. It's just the coolest most curios chick I got. Have yet to come up with a name that suits it though.

Well a fellow Okie BYC was kind enough to give us some turkey and pheasant eggs. My dad has them ready to set. I told him this was his job since I did so bad with the first hatch. Big thanks to Maribeth!!!

bless her little heart! see, i make little wooden boxes for any with that tendancy, course a determined coon could really not be stopped by that, we have our dogs running at nite, which has saved mine- silkies are known for not roosting- except for my staypuff, who is sure she is one of the 'big guys' so did both of them get got?? i need girls more than boys if thats any help- i have this beautiful white silky roo from coral-

So sorry to hear about Woodward. Do we have any members there that were affected?
Had my first varmint kill last night since we moved here. I am sure it was either a coyote or a coon. It pulled Robins silkie hen thru the cage and ate her. I feel it was a coyote because it ate everything and only left a pile of feathers. Sorry about this Robin,I will find you some replacements. Theses silkies refused to get on the roost and always set by the side of the cage,I just never expected a varmint after all this time. Guess I need to get me another outside dog!
We are in Franklin ,Tn today at a sports complex watching the granddaughter ply volleyball. They are in second place for their group now.

well, miss goose was sitting on rotten eggs....ewwwwwww..... so i removed them, and a funny, one of the dogs took off with one...don't think she'll do that again!!

does anyone know what the regulations are on raising timber wolves? the house and property 2 doors down frim us sold and they plan on raising these. we all live on 5-10 acres and after seeing what they are putting up for pens I am concerned. I dont want to make waves for them and will wait until I see if the pens are complete before expressing my concerns to them. I doubt there is anything we can do about it but cant find anything online.
