***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good afternoon Peops and POOPS peops! 84 degrees and partly cloudy is GREAT with me...could do with a little less humidity tho. Say, anyone out there interested in a few buff Orp cockerels? How about a couple of nice very large and mainly quiet NH Reds that really look a lot like RI Red cockerels? Ahhh, our of the 6 NH Reds we bought, only 2 are hens and out of the 9 buff Orps, "All of 'em, Frank." (Anyone familiar with my favorite Carry Grant movie Father Goose?) We were unable to do any caponizing on these fellows so I am going to have to re-home them to the country. Out of 15 birds, only 2 little hens.

Only a couple of the boys are getting noisy, but it won't be long now before we have a cacophony out back. Was hoping they could be quiet until POOPS, but a couple of them are having afternoon "I'm the man" practice and they just haven't got the harmony thing down well enough to make my neighbors believe we just have a small yappy dog over here!

If anyone would like .... well, any but the hens, give me a holler.

Good Afternoon everyone, I absolutely love this weather today. I have been reading away and have a question. Just how do I tell a real ameraucana compared to an EE? I have some chicks that said ameraucana on the box but no clue if that was true. They are getting pretty big now.

Another question, (yes I know!) The people for the NPIP testing called back and are setting up an appt to come test. I am just making sure I understand correctly. Does this mean I can no longer purchase birds from auctions? That was the impression I got today talking to the person. I normally am extremely careful about quarantine, this one time with the brahmas from Ksane I let the hen that got out to go sleep by them have them. Just have them all locked up away together now.

Thanks guys, do know what I would do without you all to come to!

IF I understand correctly, you can still buy from auctions, but the key is you can only buy from another NPIP certified flock in order to maintain your status... I think..... if I understood right..... ??

Hey Janbcoo1,
I've been looking for a roo either kind of what you have. Still not sure that I didn't get one in my hatchery order. They are 10 weeks old now so I guess it's too early to tell. How long will you keep them past POOPS? We can't come to it this year.

you can buy from whomever and where ever you want to, you just cant intergrate non npip birds into your flock until THEY ARE TESTED FOR PULLORUM-TYPHOID AND FOUND TO BE NEGATIVE. a lot of people think they can only buy from npip flocks, and that is the way it looks when you first read the rules but you can buy what you want where you want as long as you get it tested before you mix it with your birds.

good idea to quarantine bought birds from your flock no matter where they come from, differant flocks have differant resistance to illnesses.

technicaly if you freerange you cant be npip, but i know lots of people that are.

Some of the basic diff in EE and Ameracuana are the Am have to be one of 4 or 5 (i think) specific colors (feathers), lay blue eggs, have slate legs (no willow), white feet (underside, not yellow), have beards and muff.

Oakieridge I have heard that one of the best liver clinics is in Dallas. Is that where you go? I am going to do my best to get referred some where else when I get my next cat scan in a few months.
Tricare has a crazy rule that for all referrals you must be seen within 30 days so I struggle finding a place I can get in to.

No we use the Lied Center in Omaha, NE. They are the #2 Pediatric Liver center in the USA. PA is #1 and the lead doc at Omaha used to be in PA. When Nathanael was diagnosed at almost 10 weeks old we stayed with Children's in OKC but they didn't do transplants at the time. So we researched Transplant centers when his health just got so bad that transplant was in his near future. Omaha was close enough (have to be able to get there in under 10 hours) and had the pediatric track record I felt comfortable with. His TX doc is awsome! He cried last year when we were there. He said he has read about kids like Nathanael (living to be his age without a transplant yet) but had yet to experience it in his clinic. He was open about it was a God thing not a medicine thing. Nathanael has been living and functioning on 1/3 of his liver. His spleen is enlarged and he gets liver infections frequently but so far is the oldest child listed with Omaha with his disorder without a transplant. I know Dallas has a great clinic and we have heard lots of good about them. We just picked the clinic with the best pediatric sucess rates and experiance.

Isn't it amazing the crazy rules insurance companies put into place! Ours finally paid for Nathanael's visit from LAST May! So now I know I don't owe $10,000 only a fraction of that lol. But I am sure glad we have insurance, we went a year without it a few years back and I was a nervous wreck worrying that Nathanael would get called for transplant and we wouldn't have the money to pay for it.

Ok, guys, I suck. I've placed more than a few chicks (and my turks) recently and have placed adults-no problem. But I placed the cockerel from my very 1st hatch (that I'm obviously overly attached to) and felt sick ever since. Rebecca has graciously agreed to let me have him back. I know she's been looking and looking for a white Ameraucana hen (preferably) or roo, not an Easter Egger but an actual Ameraucana. If anyone has one or knows of one for sale please let me know.I'd like to buy it for her to make up for this whole mess. Surely someone somewhere has one.
So....if you will, help me make this up to Rebecca. And go ahead and tell me how bad I suck, I deserve it.

Wow, I don't even know any of you personally (yet) but it just broke my heart hearing how down you were on yourself about this, so had to just give you a big cyber-

for it.

Was in Shawnee for a dentist appointment this morning and was thinking about those that live nearby that I could bug... err... visit, while in town if I only knew who you were. I can't wait to meet everybody at POOPS!
