***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Just pulled about 50 of my chicks out of the hatcher and moved some eggs into the other tray so they could finish, had to do something I had to add a tray to the hatcher this week to accomodate all the new arrivals and keep them straight as to what they were.

Cool, I look forward to seeing it, I have some trays like that already used to be tops for rubbermaid tubs that I raised rats in I'm sure they would work, might have to look into that, I'll be back later and I can get that at POOPS looking forward to that as well

Sounds good see you soon.

The 2nd set of babies (Brahmas & Ameraucanas) got to go into their pen. This pen adjoins to my Cochin girls pen, we're going to fence part of the yard that these 2 pens will share when these guys are older. I can't stand the thought of them all being stuck inside pens in the summer, it gets so hot. This way they'll have access to the most shaded part of the yard but still be safe and can put themselves to bed at night and be locked in their coop plus their 10x10 pens. I don't know why it never occurred to me to do it this way before. The Ameraucanas will move to a pen next to the Bantam Favs, both will have gates that lead into their own fenced yard also. I didn't realize how hot the front of the pen area would get because I didn't start building these until fall. I'm going to put my picnic table and benches in the Cochin/Brahma yard under their trees. I have it in my head how I want to do it, we'll see how it ends up in reality.
Another thing I figured out the hard way is to chicken wire 2' along the bottom edges of the pens and up along the pickets. Nobody told me chickens dig like dogs :-/ The Dark Brahmas are getting their lacing in and it's so pretty.

Mitzi - I like the way you have your pens set up. I'm considering borrowing some of your ideas. Your birds look happy in them, and they don't look too difficult to put up.

There have been several hatches over the past few days.

Same chicks - different shot.

I have decided.. The Incubator gets shut off soon, one more month and I am done hatching till Sept. unless I decide to turn it back on.. but even then they will only be sale birds then.

Some of your babies are bigger than my 11 day old Bantam Cochins :-D I hope these little Cochins will be teeny-tiny!

Congrats Mitzi.. They are looking good, happy and healthy.
Thanks, Carl :) I appreciate so very much you hatching them for me. You're sort like....Uncle Carl now, aren't you? Haha

Somemebody quick! Call an ambulance-something's wrong with Carl!
When's the last time you even shut the incubator off??

Beautiful! Iris are among my very favorite flowers and the photos are great! IRIS ROOTS = what a terrific idea for POOPS silent auction! I'd certainly bid on them! We have a lovely front garden but the early bulbs have all spent their flashes of glory. The roses still are going strong, but there is a sort of dearth of colour where the jonquils and daffodils were. I'll try to get a photo, but I only have an old HP camera that is kind of touchy. You'll be able to see where we need something else. This pic is herbal sage - which is a butterfly magnet! This sage bush is now 5 yrs old!

I have 7 or 8 different kinds of sage. Some are perrenial and some self seed every year. They seem to grow well in the heat and butterflies do love them.

well, was looking at the 7 cochin chicks, am pretty sure 4 are roo's, sigh.... they are getting pink combs, so i'll decide on one and bring the rest to the muskogee swap.... and here is a newer pic of the faverolle chicks... and their mama, broody from you know where!

always has to be one hiding

this is gertie, the crossbeak

and you don't mess with licorice! she is a mean mama!

Cowboy 6 of your eggs hatched so far. 3 are blue, only 1 has NN but I am sure there will be more soon.

Spent 4 hours moving birds around with DD. No it wasn't a 4 hour job, but with her & I doing it together it took that long. Moved chicks from inside the barn out into the real world, then some from a brooder moved to the coop inside the barn. Caught 6 Roos & put them into a pen to be dispatched at a later date. Moved this wks hatch from a brooder in the house to a brooder in the barn. Told DD she needs to figure out what chicks she is taking to poops since I think we have over 100 less than 4 wks old, of course she has only been saving her favorites.

What is everyone going to do this weekend?

Remember----- No auction tomorrow @ Blanchard..... Barn is being used by the school.
