***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass, how would we be able to tell??

getting good fertility in a good cochin is a real test of patients, they have a great deal of fluff and feather to get past. Best success rates are with AI and beyond that at least trimmed around the vent and tail, but preferably plucked.
AI doesn't sound like something I'd want to attempt. People think I'm weird enough as it is.

Hiya Everyone!

I had this conversation last night about peeling eggs we've talked about it here before a few times what's the best and easiest way, I don't know how well this would work but just got it off FB thought I'd have to share it and try it for myself, this is what was recommended:
For anyone that may not know, the BEST way to make hard-boiled eggs is in the OVEN! Place the eggs in a muffin tray so they do not move around, turn the oven to 325 degrees, pop in for about 25-30 minutes and remove! Not only are they tastier, but they also are much easier to peel!

Gotta be worth tryin' at least once LOL the post says won't blow up and no water needed...
Try it and post back the results. I'm not good with cooking and if it's a joke I don't want them to blow up lol

In the incubator that has the turner the heat is produced in the top and fans distribute it down evenly on all 4 shelves, I had a couple fans in the bottom one caused a cooler zone and I took it out the other didn't cause problem for the first several hatches then I had the drying issue so I took it out also and then made the separate hatcher that has no fans, the heat is produced at the bottom and rises and the temp is averaged in the center of the space, I used some plastic tubs as drawers or trays for the eggs but the are like 6" deep open on top, I was thinking maybe go with a shallower tray with vent holes and use a lid maybe for the next set (due next week)

Carl I need to come visit one of these days and see how your set up works, I saw Bob and El's once but didn't have a chance to peek inside to see it in detail, So far all my tinkering has been based on research on here and some other sites and asking more questions than a 5 year old LOL

The door is always open, but please call first, I have been working a killer schedule with a lot of long days but could accomodate you one evening for an hour or so. Do you have my number?

Well I'm heading back out to play, I had to take a break from reworking an old boat trailer trying to make it into something more useful, I was using the cutting torch and some slag jumped on me and set my head on fire so I came in to get on here and hope that the smell of burnt hair and brain matter would make me just enough smarter that I won't repeat the process while I try to finish what I need done :)

I like wooden trays no more than 1 1/2 inches tall, with 1/4 inch wire on the bottom. This allows for good airflow and even heat.
My incubators are modeled after Natureform, nearly 5 1/2 ft tall, 2 1/2 feet wide, the heating element is on the side surrounding the fan blade which is about 4ft across and driven by a 1/4 hp motor mounted to the top of the incubator on the outside.

Just pulled about 50 of my chicks out of the hatcher and moved some eggs into the other tray so they could finish, had to do something I had to add a tray to the hatcher this week to accomodate all the new arrivals and keep them straight as to what they were.
