***OKIES in the BYC III ***

They were my DH's. He is so relieved they have a good home. Most Cochin broodies are sweet, may complain a lot, but don't get mean if you check their eggs. Mine just grumble when I pick them off the nest. Good thing I am not fluent in "Chicken", I think they are cussing a blue streak.
I am not fluent in chicken either, but I *know* she's cussin' a blue streak! She definitely isn't mean, but she doesn't want to be messed with. I just can't believe she doesn't go eat or anything. I've never had a broody this devoted. My Doms will set and hatch, but they're definitely off the nest every morning and every evening. I've got one trying to go broody right now, but she is real flighty. If I check the eggs she's outta there. You tell your DH that these guys are gonna get the full chicken retirement plan. :D

Those of you with OEGB, when do you dub the little roos? How old are they supposed to be?
You do to show, and will find it helpfull in the winter, otherwise they are fine with thier comb. You should wait till they are 8-9 months old so that body and tail are finished. If you want to have them dubbed just let me know.

Since getting our big redwood incubator up and running we have been hatching everything I can find, lol. We have Marans in Splash, FBCM, Golden Salmon, French Cukoo, then we have Buff Orphington, Black Australorp, Guineas, I am hatching some Splash marans roo/blue andelusion hen eggs can't wait to see how those turn out. Hatched some EE eggs from a friend that are super cute babies! Hatched some RIR eggs from auction (again not all were RIR some hatched out black!LOL), only thing I didn't find before I set my last eggs were Barred Rocks and some Herritage RIR eggs. Guess I will wait until fall to work on those, lol. Hubby is amazed at our hatch rates with this new incubator! We are getting about 85-90% out of our viable eggs. I am sooooo looking forward to fall hatches now but at the same time I am looking forward to the brooders in the house being empty for a short time.
I told you it was a good one, just needs tuned in a bit more and your hatch rates will rise.

I've got Silver & Gold Laced Cochins with 3 different hatch dates because I set the eggs at different times, The 2 little Orps from Bill have the same hatch date as the middle group. I got them all put together today. I honestly don't think any of them realize they didn't grow up together. They had bugs together and are finally winding down. "Bug" is a very busy time when you're a baby. They're worn out after playing keep-away for 30 minutes with bugs as big as their heads lol! I just love these guys.

Evening all.

I was sitting outside with my birds this evening when one of them came near and squatted, like she was going to poo, and this weird looking clump of tissue came out.

A much nicer photo - of my cannas with the Black Minorca in the background.

Nanakat, she has clean legs, and they are almost green colored. Here is a more closeup shot of her head. I love the spots around her eyes, but at some angles they make her look like she's sitting with them closed. Worried me a time or two until I figured out it was her coloring and not that she was ill!

Whatever she is, I likes her!!!!
She is ameraucana or easter egger. The green legs give it away and the chick coloring fits.

Cute babies! I have put babies of different hatch dates together before, too. They usually do fine. Mine have to find their own bugs, though. I'm not about to raise any extras for them.

I have new Cream Legbar babies! They're very shy, but I think in a few days they will become accustomed to their surroundings. I will have a pair for sale at NEOCS in the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale. By June 16th, they will be about five weeks old. White head spot indicates male, and chipmunk-striped back indicates female.

Ok, who has a pair of small fainting goats they'd like to part with?

-Stimp-
Only source I know of is Gerald & Carla. We got 3 from them. A weather, buckling & cute little black doe that has wavy hair & is polled. The are all sweet & enjoy being petted -- they are your best friends when you have a bucket of feed tow.

Hey Stimpy, you might talk to Gerald and Carla, didn't they have the Fainting Goats! Maybe you could just barrow a couple of weathers for a while, if you do get goats, I will warn you do not feed them scratch grains, we lost three young billies one year when we had about 40 Pygmy's, the vet said it is from eating grain, he recommend the medicated goat pellets, it has the stuff in it to help keep them from forming stones in their kidneys I believe and stopping them up so they can't urinate, they virtually drown them selves as they can't urinate. After we went to the medicated goat pellets and did not over feed them we didn't loose any more goats, I like the Pygmies, my Fainters are about as small as most Pygmies and they are just as curious, if there is a hole they can get their head through the body will follow it!!! Lynn

Yes, we definitely have fainting goats. Lots of babies available right now, but no wethers ... we could definitely band them at the age they are.

We really need to cut back on all critters soon. We just don't have enough time for all of them, and all the overtime I have to work, and then with Gerald having some health problems lately, it's definitely time to sell. Gerald and I have decided to cut down to a flock of dark brown egg layers (marans) for his egg customers. We're going to sell out of all the other chickens, and sell down to just a few bourbon red turkeys too. Oh, and we have 7 akc komondor puppies that are for sale also. If anyone is interested, just email or send a message. I rarely get a chance to get online anymore.

Wow PoCo those legbars are cute! They have really feathered out well. You may have to hold a lottery,I'll bet everyone will be after the extra pair!
Well its taken getting used to not haveing so many birds around. But I am happy with the ones I have kept. Had one hen hatch off yesterday and she has a good assortment, some hamburgs(bantams) ,some icelandics, some golden polish and I gave her two wcb polish and she accepted them. She has 15 in all. the rainy spell we had was hard on my nearly feathered out chicks. Several are looking like they aren't going to make it. I have noticed that thr roosters in the icelandics are almost twice as big as female chicks. you would think they were weeks apart! So this may mean that they will be a good farm breed to raise for butchering the extra roos. I lkie them more the more I learn about them.
the one big down side of thinning my flocks so much is that I won't have any reason to go to the weekly auctions. Thats going to be hard to get used to.
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
