We had such a good time today! I said we wouldn't buy any birds but came home with a silkie from Betsy and a Spangled Hamburg from Joe. Bought some wonderful jelly and honey. My daughter won the book in the raffle which will come in handy! Met some friendly folks and tried to put names and faces together, not easy only being on the forum a week or so. I'm so glad we went and look forward to another meeting!

Joe I do they are toooo cute, I can't make up my mind if the hooda's look more like Abe Lincoln or the jewish men w/ the beards and curls on the side of their heads! lol (I don't mean any disrespect by that to any jewish people) can't wait to see the top knots start growing.

Poco is hatching my NN eggs from you too. You said they were black skinned are they also black feathered???? (the NN u of a eggs.)

Sounds like everyone had a great time today. Sorry we missed it. I love seeing what everyone brought home. Came home from selling fireworks to gather eggs, well I sent Jackson to do it so I could check all the pens and make sure everyone had water. Jackson came flying out of the cuckoo marans pen screaming snake. Never saw that little boy move so fast! LOL. Kurt thankfully was home, we went in to find it and it was gone. Well it had gotten between the wooden fence that it backed with metal there was a small knot hole he must have gotten through to get between the two layers of the wall. I had just thought well Jack just saw a stick. But when I sent Kurt to go gather bantam eggs and stick them in the nest in that coop (got one broody) and count the eggs so we could just see if there was a snake. Kurt almost picked the snake up with his hands!! It was getting dusk so he couldn't see the snake. I had the flashlight and saw it just as Kurt was reaching for the nest. Not sure on kind I will get a picture of it tomorrow but it is at least 4' long, not very big around but he was trying to eat the eggs in the nest. Is there a good way to build a pen to keep snakes out? We have the back wall build out of cedar fencing and then sheet metal burried 24" on the backside of that that run all the way to the roof of the coop. I am going to put up hardware cloth around the outside edges of the coops when we get done with fireworks but I am sure they can still get over the top of that and just go through the chicken wire higher up. I need to fine a better place to put my broody with her eggs. I was thinking about a rabbit hutch would she be safer in there? At least now I know I wasn't going insane when all my guinea eggs were disapearing!

Well the 4 chicks made it back safe and sound. Came back with more than we took.

Not really surprising!

I had a wonderful time at NEOCS. I met alot of very nice people and it is good to put a face with a name. Promised myself I wasn't gonna buy anything, but I did! I bought a trio of Red Gingers and a pair of Bearded Belgium D'Anvers. Very pretty chicks if I do say so myself. I guess I had a hankering for the Bantams today. Didn't see any Blue Orpingtons. Really wanted some of them. If I had enough pens and a bunch of money I could have filled up a semi with all of those beautiful chickens, ducks and guineas.

It was a good turnout in the beginning but was so hot that most everyone left early. Coral did a great job setting this up. They said we could have brought fans. Next time, I will! The auction was good but the people that had a reserve price should have said so from the beginning instead of letting people bid and then telling them they could not have them at that price. Would have saved alot of time. However, I can understand people not wanting to let go of their poultry at too low a price. It just needs to be clear before any bidding gets started.

On another note, I can't wait until the next meet. Will definitely have to go to the next POOPS meet. I am totally exhaused and ready for bed.

Hope to see you all again next time.
