***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey guys! I have a seriously broody black australorp hen that is refusing to give up sitting on unfertilized eggs. I have taken eggs away from her everyday for two weeks now. She has ripped out all of her belly feathers and, in my opinion, has her mind set on brooding. I have never had a broody hen before but she is refusing to even roost at night so I know she is serious. I do not have a rooster so my question is should I get her some fertilized eggs to sit? Everyone seems to leave her alone and even push eggs under her so...

Does anyone have any black australorp, rir, or silver lace wyandotte eggs they are willing to sell me?

Thanks!

Ivy

I've got some Australorp eggs...but live up by Tulsa. I won't mail them in this heat, but if you make it up this way, I'd give you a few since it's for a good cause.

i dont post much on here, mainly because of the way some people act.
its a shame that someone says something, and others decide to read something else into it.

i saw a lot of people that were just interested in money, didnt seem to care about talking if you werent interested in buying.
i have also seen on the board people that try to make a good impression, but if you look closer they are only intertested in selling what they hatch or raise. i talked to a couple people i knew,
at muskogee i saw birds that i have seen in lots of other places, but these birds had huge prices on them! most people could get a whole flock for what these people wanted for 2-3 birds!
i have seen these prices at some shows before, but they are rare there and usually only asked by a few breeders that think they are above everyone else.
i only stayed for about a half hour, i felt way out of place because so many people were avoiding each other, and because if i had wanted to go to a poultry swap i could have went to afton or several other places. i talked to a few people i know, some of whom have years of experiance doing this kind of stuff and would, i am sure, been more than happy to help out if they had been asked.

i have seen several people leave since i joined that to long ago, usually because of 1 or 2 people that seem to think it is all about them, and also because of dishonest people on here. no names mentioned for obvious reasons

i hope that all the new people in the last few months are ignoreing all this in fighting, and i hope that the staff of this site is looking at it and can see what needs to be done.

as someone said earlier, "sorry for expressing my opinion, and hope i didnt offend anyone very much".

I will definitely keep your offer in mind! I am hoping for something a little closer as I don't get up that direction very often. Thank you very much for making the offer. It is very appreciated!

Jackie O isn't just a pretty face w/ big hair, she caught a frog today and ate it. I would rather she went after rodents, but at least she is a good hunter.

Cowboy, I think Miss Priss laid an egg today we found a small white egg and I don't have any white layers, does she lay white????
Yep she should lay white eggs. The other day I was out choiring and a small cottontail rabbit. (about 1/4 grown) made the mistake of squirming thru the chainlink into a brood pen of American games. Had one cock and 3 hens. The hens had the bunny and had it killed before I got the gait open. Chickens are alot tougher than given credit.

We just finished our kraut day project: 58.5 quarts from a 20 gallon crock.
It was all hands on deck for Kraut Day

We need more jars

Today's haul

Add to that the 52 quarts and 11 pints from the 5 gallon, 8 gallon and 10 gallon crocks put up earlier this week and we have 116 quarts for the next two years.
The grand nephew spent the morning out with the geese and the chicks and he had a great time! Told me he wanted us to adopt him so he could live in the chick house....

Wow, I wouldnt come in my house for a month if my wife canned that much kraut, never aquired a taste or smell for it. Looks like you are set for awhile.

The way some people act is why you don't post? That's too bad & I hope you change your mind. I've seen some bullying from the same few people but I think everyone pretty much rolls their eyes and ignores the bullies now. I honestly didn't notice ANYone avoiding each other at all, that surprises me. I saw one person after another walk up to someone else and introduce themselves. Are you sure you were at the right get-together? lol People will be people and there'll always be someone we don't get along with. I know exactly who the individuals are who don't care for me here. I don't want to upset them & make others uncomfortable so I just laugh off what they say and don't let it bother me. I must have missed the tables where the birds were overpriced, too. But then I was only there a couple hours. If a particular bird is only worth a certain amount to you, just don't buy it if it's too much. That works for me. I think it was a huge success and it makes me feel really bad for Coral when people complain, She tried very hard to organize things, if I were her it would hurt my feelings the way 1 or 2 people complained. Everyone in Oklahoma was invited, it was on Craigslist and there were flyers in several towns. I guess I don't understand how your expectations weren't met. Everyone has a right to their own opinions though, I hope you'll stick around and find out that most these people are just that-people.

well said. i came out from the sell pretty good, i did see some prices on some birds to was a little high for me to pay, but i didn't buy them, i also think most of the people were very friendly and easy going and for it being the first one and only one main person putting it together i thought it turned out great. I'm sorry you feel that way, but i think there are a lot of great people on here and I'm glad i had the chance to talk to some of them this weekend. thanks to every ones participation this weekend

You sound sorta familiar, oh well. I was at the swap and thought it went good. I talked awhole lot more than I sold. I baby setted (just kidding) several nice youngsters hung out at my space and talked and talked and talked. To me the kids are what it is about. As far as people avoiding each other, aint no perfect world, no mater what hobby everyone dont get along. Half hour wasnt hardly enough time to walk up and down every isle, little own look at much and talk to anyone. As for me I went to sale birds. If you came by and wanted to talk birds, I would have offered you a chair and we would have talked chickens (if we talked stuff I know about, not much of a fufu chicken man) But we would have talked till the sun went down. But if someone come by to buy some good fowl, I would have sold it to them and got all I could or brought it home. My fowl aint the best, but will do till the best comes along. If a person was bargain hunting, there was lots of birds went cheap in the auction. I will throw this out to anyone on here or anywhere else. If you go buy some eggs from a good breeder, set them in either a incubator or under a hen. Hatch them assuming you get a fair hatch, raise them to a year old. Now the challange, if you can do that and get the same quality of fowl that I or some others had for sale, and do it for what I asked for any of my birds, I will give you the dang things. At 16 dollar a bag for chick starter, then 15 for regular feed. Figuring time at half of minimum wage,.Worm meds, vit.s etc etc. I figure I lose probable at least 10 bucks on every thing I sale because. I cull those that need it, and sale only birds that I would use. I sale them so I can buy more feed as I cant keep them all. I drive a 3/4 ton Chevy gets about 13 mpg. Take away my gas, motel and eats, I may have brung home 100 dollars if that. I have been on here for a couple years. I think more folks leave because they get burnt out after awhile. I know I am going to cut way back as I need to get up off my butt and get out more. Has nothing to do with anyone fighting or running rough shod over anyone. There are some on here I dont read their posts, and I am sure many dont read mine. I have noticed that there seems to be an on going fued on here from a few folks. I dont understand and really dont care. I figure either get along or move along. Oh well I have said more on here than I should probable, but hey, Thats how I roll.
