Hi fellow flockers!

Hope today finds you well and cool! Would anyone be interested in having two NH/RIR red hens? It appears I have been turned in again because the current president of our HomeOwneers' association called and left a message on my ans. machine. She was asking if I know about City codes.... which means, someone has complained about the Orp capons running around in my backyard. Therefore, the code enforcement man should be here today or tomorrow. So I am caging up my little friends and getting them ready to go to new homes. PM me if you'd like to have: 1-6 buff orpington eunichs - some of whom have the ability to crow, but are mostly sweet bug catchers, 2 red hens, or 2 buff orp pullets. Please let me know if you are interested...I'll bring 'em or we can meet, or You can pick 'em up, but I have to get them re-homed by tomorrow. Thanks.
jan- see if mitzi of nana could house them for you- wish i were closer, i'd love to help out! i know there are quite a few close to you

hey i have been at work since 6am and don't get off till 4:30 so i couldn't have got mine on first. lol
Excuses, excuses!! LOL! Got some gardening done this morning. Was muggy as all get out and I was sweating so bad in the shade! Had to come in and head str8 to the shower and get cleaned up. Now imma work on a few bows and get some canning done to pass the heat of the day away.

I hate being out of town and worrying about my little chicks. My girls put a mister out there and put a fan behind it to blow it towards the coop and said they were playing in it and jumping up and pecking the water drops off the tree branches so I guess they are having fun. They brought my rabbit in the house for the week so he's nice and cool. Cats live inside and the dogs are staying in; so far so good!

Sorry to hear about the losses. This heat is just miserable. Keep the pictures coming, I enjoy them all, animals, kids, crops....
I know how you feel. I took my boy to swim lessons. Usually I workout after he is done. They have a daycare. Today i cut my workout in half to check on the chickens and turn on the mister. After losing Vanessa yesterday I was like a mother hen (pun intended)

I don't have a problem with killing a turtle but sounds like he was making it suffer - i don't think needless suffering is cool. True that there are much more important events happening in our world that could get coverage.
I agree. Killing an animal to eat or because it is hurting or killing your livestock or pets is one thing. Hurting an animal just to watch it suffer is another. I bet there is more to the story if they are pressing charges.

NanaKat - Thanks for identifying the birds. They are amazing bug catchers (including snatching bugs straight out of the air).
We've had a pair of Barn Swallows return every year to the same nest for several years. They just add another story to the top of the old nest. It has been on a ledge inside the carport garage. This year there is only 1 inch between the top of the nest and the roof of the garage. Guess we will need to cut it down some for next year. A pair has started a nest attached to the side of the first tower.
Lovely birds.

I've seen cotton trailers used for several projects. That is very reasonable.

today when i get home i get to hang the new gate i made for myn chicken yard. then i guess the next step is to buy a big poultry net to cover the top of the yard. and i have been thinking about expanding it 8ft more on 2 sides, that would give it 600sq-ft more, but that will be later down the line.
Curious mind wants to know...
What will the 8 foot sections house? Would those be pens for growing out or breeding sets?
How will you support the net in the middle?
Noticed in one of your recent pictures you have geese...what kind are they?

Good morning to all! It`s gonna be another hot one! 106°F here yesterday and it`s supposed to get up to 104°F today! Y`all have a good n` and stay cool! :) egh

Don't your codes allow for 6 hens? That way you would only have to rehome the capons.

We are home from market. Was way hot, but a good crowd still came out shopping. The girls are starting to get quick at figuring how much they both are bringing home. Most of the time they will have the money split before we are half way home. The most amazing part is we sold out of squash! Even had people asking for squash after it was gone. Think we will make some salsa tomorrow. Depends on how many tomatoes I find that are bruised. Checked all the birds, gave them cool water & such. The silkie hen managed to steal 7 keets from the rose comb RIR. I saw 1 go back to the rose comb when the silkie was eating, so maybe they will share babies?? The Ross comb is still setting. I will give her 2 more days then I am taking the eggs. Think she only has 2 or 3 left. With this heat I won't be surprised if they don't hatch.

Stay cool everyone, I think I began melting about 1230.
