Silly Question for you all! My Mother-In-Law's Boyfriend has told me to treat "scaley leg" with "used motor oil"? has anybody ever heard of this remedy? or is this man crazy? He swears that it work, but I have yet to hear of anyone else that has done this? I was going to use the "veggie oil" thing, but he said the ONLY thing that has ever worked for him, is "used motor oil"?

I've been using it for years. Been trying penetrating oils etc. lately. They all work, but don't seem to work near as good.

It doesn't look real good on leg feathers when doing Cochin legs, but after a couple of weeks you never know they were dipped by looking.

Thanks for reminding me. I have a few that need treatment too.

Hey all. I think I need to thin out my flock. Is anyone interested in some Black Australorps? They're beautiful girls. I might even be persuaded to part with my incredibly handsome Australorp roo. They're all 18 weeks old. I'm in the NW OKC area.

oh my goodness this motteled orpington it the best he is so calm and extremly massive and suuper fluffy here is a pic of him setting on my 6 year olds lap he is soooo big you can barly see him under neath all that fluff LOL

Ok my smart chicken friends, can you tell me if this is a Silver Laced Polish or a Appenzeller Spitzhauben? Also is it a girl?



Also, this is a boy right? I'm so sad if it is, I cannot keep a boy in the city.

They are both 7 weeks old BTW

The second photo is a White Crested Blue Polish and looking rooish with the red wattles.
I had two that fortunately turned out to be girls. Their wattles didn't turn red until they began to lay.
The Silver Laced looks like a girl.

Joe and his wife have beautiful children!

Had a big shock this morning. I was quite late feeding this morning, and it was undoubtedly a good thing.

When I got to the small Dutch barn, I heard the keets in the brooder inside giving frantic distress calls--thought one or more had escaped from the GQF brooder. Upon opening the door, I could see they were all frantically trying to get out the front and were unable to. There was about a 4' SNAKE INSIDE the brooder. It was swallowing a chick and had either squeezed a keet to death or had made it so frantic it broke its neck.

We'd thought we made this little barn predator proof when we had it completely finished inside! However, I'd left one of the outside windows open a crack during the winter for ventilation for the small gas heater, and there was a fairly big hole in the screen. I'd forgotten to close it when we turned the heater off. I suspect it got in through that.
Vashi had watered them several hours earlier and all was well then. I usually feed just after he waters, so I wouldn't have caught it either and it would have had nearly 10 hours to eat chicks and keets before one of us went out to feed and water!

I still feel very badly for the two babes!

Oh, I am so glad you caught him, but I'm really sorry about the two babies too. I hate snakes. Hate 'em. They need to eat the gophers and moles and leave my chicks and eggs alone. If they did that, we'd be just fine.
