Gunmama Sounds like your dog has a spider bite or scorpion sting . Do you have any nitroglycerin tablets available (for heart conditions)?
If you do, make a paste of Neosporin and a pill crushed. Apply with a bandaid to the area. A spiderbite will remove oxygen from the bite site while the Nitro paste will re-oxygenate the area.
Doctor said to do this for brown recluse spider bites and it kept the area from rotting.
A snake bite would show much more swelling.

No I don't have any nitroglycerin available. I am trying to find the bite mark but am having trouble seeing one.

Morning all! Haven't been much for typing the last couple of days. Partied hard Saturday and that was just enough for my immune system to drop its defenses enough to let whatever it was the hubby had in. Been running fevers off and on since Sunday afternoon. Chickies are all doing well over here. Hubby is clearing out the spot where he wants to build my new coop/feed storage/garden shed.

On a side note could use some advice. My Daschund has some kind of bite on his belly. It is red, swollen and hot. He is having trouble getting around now. Really worried but don't have the money to spend on a vet bill. Any ideas on what could have bit him and what we can do to help him?
Can you see any punctures in the bite? They are built kinda low to the ground so most anything crawling could be in reach, I'd look for twin punctures that might be seen if it were a snake bite, and if it happens to be that you would really need to take him to a Vet, some will let you pay out a bill just to get an animal treated. If it's a spider bite chances are it won't get much worse and even snake bites are rarely fatal if treated, If it's a bee or wasp sting it should be fine just might be sore for a little while and neosporin for pain or any topical treatment that has a numbing effect can ease the bite area a bit, You might call a Vet and ask for advice though some will help out quite a lot, Hope he gets to feeling better

Silly Question for you all! My Mother-In-Law's Boyfriend has told me to treat "scaley leg" with "used motor oil"? has anybody ever heard of this remedy? or is this man crazy? He swears that it work, but I have yet to hear of anyone else that has done this? I was going to use the "veggie oil" thing, but he said the ONLY thing that has ever worked for him, is "used motor oil"?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Yes I have heard of this tx. It is my understanding the reason it is effective is it smothers the mites, if that is the case the veggie oil should work too. I don't know if the used motor oil is changed enough to stick better or have some other property that the veggie oil would not have.
