jcat how to you find a large stem w/o any flowers???? I'm talking about the tomato thing.

A few pics from today

Skyfire, brooding it up.

Joe's hooda's getting big

rumpless and tufted and hopefully girls

Velasa all posing showing off that twiggy butt

Mensa still hoping for a girl

This is what happens when a broody mom eats to many moths while brooding eggs. lol lol I love the black V, the other houdan has a solid black splotch instead of a V. Gary thinks this one looks like Elvis

Kass I guess I just have special plants! Seriously I never have a problem finding stems free of blooms-- I know that isn't a postive thing. Some of my plants will always have skinny branches since that is there type, but beefsteak & brandywine & large slicing types always have thick branches to pick from. I am guessing it may be hard to find a thick branch on my rutgers or Arkansas traveler. The plants are kinda skinny. I am guessing Wednesday I will have a chance to trim some more plants. Will do my best to get some pics.

Mj sorry you lost a favorite! And yes pricing is awful. First thing I did when I went to market was ask what everyone else was pricing at so I didn't under cut anyone. Tomorrow will be a long day at the market for us! Think we have about a hundred pounds of tomatoes! Told the girls they better pack a lunch. They are thrilled though. They fight over picking the best sellers because who ever picks it gets the money. Great motivation!

SCORE!

About a month or so ago, I answered a Craigslist ad for layers for $5 apiece. I lucked out and called the guy first, and he let me have them. Very nice birds (5 of them) about 18 months old. Too old for his setup, but perfect starters for mine. He said he would call if he needed to move some more.

Today he called.

In two weeks I will be picking up 40 or so layers for $5 apiece. I think he wants to sell to me because he knows I'm moving mine to pasture, and he runs a pasture operation.

Exciting! Just didn't know where else to share.
Congratulations on the birds! BTW There is an Auction on the 12th in Wellston at 1 pm. The MooCow restaurant on 66 Hwy is selling out...closed 2010 and they have lots of stainless steel kitchen stuff...Ball Auction service is handling the auction. We get their notices thru the mail. Will be a quick auction.
Quote: Ksane, MJ and ArmyWife...sorry to hear about the losses.

Sorry to hear about everyone's losses.

I'm the worlds worst when I lose an animal.

jcat - I had 50 pounds of tomatoes last year because I planted them early and then made a small greenhouse over them. Worked like a charm. Did the same thing this year but they've failed miserably in comparison. Going for those fall tomatoes now!

kass - love the Elvis look!

My little silkie bantam Sa Kin has decided that I am the greatest thing since sliced bread and has taken to following me all over the yard. He won't leave my side when I'm out doing the chores in the evening but if my husband comes out, he bites him. I'm sure his feelings will change at some point but for now I'm basking in the adoration. Lol. Here's a pic of the little sweetie along with our golden sebright and mottled cochin bantams. The cochin Moonshine is a little monster any more. Challenges everyone no matter the size. At least the sebright Pistol Pete is pretty laid back.

So sorry to hear about your losses. That must have been terrible. I guess it's inevitable and will happen to us all at some point, I'm sure dreading it.

Love all the pictures of the vegetables and chickies! My tomoatoes have stopped growing due to this heat but my cucumbers are going crazy.

Morning all! Haven't been much for typing the last couple of days. Partied hard Saturday and that was just enough for my immune system to drop its defenses enough to let whatever it was the hubby had in. Been running fevers off and on since Sunday afternoon. Chickies are all doing well over here. Hubby is clearing out the spot where he wants to build my new coop/feed storage/garden shed.

On a side note could use some advice. My Daschund has some kind of bite on his belly. It is red, swollen and hot. He is having trouble getting around now. Really worried but don't have the money to spend on a vet bill. Any ideas on what could have bit him and what we can do to help him?
