***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Cathie they definately need something for warmth at a few days of age, also make are they can't get wet.

Retired army wife I think the only reasonable answer would be get more chickens! Yours need someone to teach them to chase bugs.

Lets talk nite guard. What are your thoughts? Does it work? Is it worth the money or is there a more effective measure?
If you try it, let me know. I've heard great things about it but it's like Oxine-the only info you can find is from people promoting it, never any unbiased 3rd party information.

Sdsknifeworks, those are some nice looking chickens! And a wonderful choice of breeds also.

Christina, I didn't hatch out that many chicks, I just talk about them all the time so it seems that way

. I'm not near as good as Taron. The ones I hatched were mainly Bantams so they only count 1/2 anyway. I'm thrilled to be getting GIRLS in 2 wks though. Why on earth did it never occur to me to get pullets only from a hatchery....? Sometimes I can be so dense. And I don't care about show quality birds. These were only $4 a peice and that included shipping! Heck, I've been known to pay more than that for shipped eggs.

Good morning everyone, well it looks like we missed out on the rain completely this time! We could sure use some. I bought another Toppy rooster last Sat. he is a BluePyle marked bird, will try to get pics to show. We have been baby siting my BIL Pit but, she is a sweet heart but has woke us up every night about 1 or 2 am , not used to the night sounds around here I guess. Here is a pic of her. Lynn

Anyone watch GMA. Right now there is a news story on chicken feed being linked to humans experiencing more issues w super bugs. They are saying it is because chickens are eating antibiotics in their feed daily.

Are they saying that the food producers are putting the antibiotics in the feed and not listing it on the bag or in the ingredient list? I would hope not. They could build up resistance to antibiotics when they ever do get sick or need them.

After early morning garden picking the girls crawled back into bed, but Baby was barking like crazy. Taron went out to investigate & was a 6ft+ snake outside one of the pens. It was barley tangled up in the deer net. Pulled it out & dispatched it. Once Baby was certain it was taken care of she went & stood @ the front door ready to come inside as a "reward". She appeared very proud of her catch. The pyreneese appears to hate snakes. He will not go anywhere near them. At least we have 1 dog that doesn't fear anything! She even attacks fireworks, silly dog!

They said 70% of antibiotics made for us our actually used in livestock with the main source being used in commercial chicken operations. They didn't accuse commercial feeds I don't believe. Just large scale poultry places that are after bigger & faster production for meat birds. It was a short segment, I believe they were implying meat production not eggs. Might be able to watch the segment online?? Not sure.

My 2 little ones made it through the night. Here in about a week I'll splint my little gimps foot and hopefully it'll grow normally.

Another nice day in sunny Oklahoma..
That said our serama from poops sure is a crowed pleasere. We
just love the heck out of him and so do our friends that would like one
or two. Now calling around to a local guy in Luther, he says all of his
our pretty wild. I would like to have another like our little guy which has us
to thinking. I am like to have some serama chicks or eggs to raise. If anyone
has any or knows of anyone that has some please pass on my contact info.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm new to chickens, and live in Tulsa. You all seem like a good group of folks to pry for information. Well, hope you all are having a great day.
