***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning all, I started early but still was out working in the heat until a few mins ago. But I did get all the waterers bleached and refilled with water and some electrolite powder I still need to go out and turn on the misters to the pens. I also put out fermented oats for all the birds. It is so hot out there already. I think the rest of my day wil be spent in the house working in the AC.

Carl, let me know when it will be a good time to bring him out. I leave Tuesday for Florida and won't be back until the following Monday. But hubby will be here so he could bring Nathanael and Prince Charming out. We will need all the tips we can get since none of the kids have been to a show let alone shown a bird before.LOL

Well housework won't do itself and kids certianly aren't going to do it for me so off to work I go, lol.
Weekend after next works best for me, I am working this weekend, and next but am scheduled off the following. So two weeks on a saturday or sunday your choice, preferably morning or evening so we will not be out in the heat of the day.

Something ate my 8 Swedish Flower chicks last night. Have never had any predators till now. They were usu a week old. Something dug under the dog house and fence then pulled open the door i had attached. I didn't put the bolts through the eyes so I'm sure i made it easy. Well, 'm back down to 7 and really mad at myself.
Its an awful feeling blaming yourself re flock loss, in hindsight, I think we would all know that feeling well, I certainly do!. I guess the only good thing is everyone learns from those experiences and gets to help others prevent them. Doesn't make it easier though. Do you have any idea what is was?

Where can you buy the Frontline spray?
I get it at our feed store.. the Adams works too, so does a good dip in a mix of permethrin and water. I really like the last one best as you really get the opportunity to handle the bird better, and the oils in the permethrin help with moisture retention in the feather which helps feather development. Beyond that it washes out the dust etc that the birds have on them which damages teh feathers.

Oh Kass and Cathie sorry to hear about the losses. That is awefull esp. when it is chicks you have waited for like you did. We used to have a problem with feral cats when we lived in town but out here I guess there are enough other things to keep them chased off.

We have a yard full of roos and the last few days we have found eggs in different hiding spots, so we know at least one isn't a roo lol. This one the boys named Buffy Puffy, these are some seriously HUGE buff orphingtons! LOL

Got feed and watering done, checked on everyone.. all good so far. I am flat beat and have another 5 or 6 days to go till I get another break. Hope the weekend treats all good and the flocks continue to hold up well. One of these days I will get some free time to chat with everyone again. Till then be safe and try to stay cool this heat is flat brutal.

What an adorable son, and that rooster looks like he is laughing at some joke that was just told.

Sorry to hear about the losses, so sad.

I don't know if it's the heat or what but when I went out and sat with the girls tonight they were all fighting and acting like old grouchy hens! Guess I'd be the same way if I had to stay outside all day. I don't think there's enough water, misters or fans to keep up with this miserable heat!
