***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Suffered a dog attack yesterday. I'm sure that the final count will be much higher as I am still finding birds the further out that I look. Right now the count is about 30. I had opened a few pens to help to keep from losing birds to the heat, hopefully the dogs will be back today as I will be home all day with a rifle handy.

These were juveniles and a few replacement layers. Our older girls all disappeared and they were still coming up at dark last night. Even a few youngsters were still coming up too.

Things just keep getting better and better, Went out to check the goats and one of them has a head full of porkupine quills. What fun get the gloves and the pliers.
Oh, I'm so sorry about the birds and the porcupine. Hope you have better luck tonight! Did all your older girls come back finally?

Well, my battery cage rescues have slowed way down. They were laying like crazy, but now they just seem like normal chickens now. I think what we got the last few days were already in the pipeline, and now the stress of the relocation and new environment are taking their toll. I'm thinking they will pick back up once they are a bit settled.

Right? Please tell me I'm right.

:)
Ok, you're right! Sounds like a bit of stress to me but I've never relocated birds like that before so it's only a guess. I'm just wondering if maybe the fact that they are getting more exercise now could have something to do with it too?

hi everyone, i am totally exhausted- this nice weather coaxed me outside to get caught up on things- unfortunately once i get started i don't want to quit- but the bantams have a new coop, not fancy, but much sturdier, the silkies have a play yard, in a few days i'll do them a coop- how much room do ten silkies need???

sad about matt, seeing as he was a bycer for awhile, but that kind of sentence is necessary

we off to the shower and relax a bit
Love your new avitar, I always like to see your paintings and drawings there but that hen and chicks are so sweet.

Got our son moved into his dorm at OSU today. Can't believe all the things he forgot!

We weren't planning on going back for a couple of weeks to bring him home for the weekend but now we have to go back next week to take him all the stuff he left at home. Oh well, next time we'll know better. He was not happy about leaving his cat and the turkeys behind but I guess he'll get through it. I'm still just pretending he is at camp ... don't think that will work forever but it works for now.

Hopefully we can get the new garden beds finished tomorrow and start working out the greenhouse design for this year. Since we're adding two more beds to the set up we'll have to reconfigure it but we wanted to change some things anyway.

One of our tom turkeys is still getting out too ... Ugh. We came home today and he was running up the alley toward our house. Not good. We covered the turkey pen where we thought he was getting out today before we left for Stillwater so we have no idea how he got out but there he was, panicked as all get out. Thankfully we got him back and he wasn't injured at all. We've had some stray dogs running around the neighborhood the last few days so we were lucky none of them found him.

Well, off to bed. It's been a long day.

If Teva would have seen me hand off my walker to a friend and crawl up into the cab of a semi she would have shot me right on the spot. LOL Shesh all I was doing was backing a trailer into a tight spot, not like I was hauling a load or anything.

In your place, my better half would be the same way.
But . . . . .
Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I'll bet it felt good to get up in that cab for a moment, even if it was just to back into a spot.
