***OKIES in the BYC III ***

SDS if you look @ the noble foundation site you can see there raised beds. They use old tires for some. Also use sheet metal with min framing for others.
Looking forward to the cool weather & rain!!! Good night everyone.
I attended a workshop in Lawton on the corrugated tin beds, put on by Noble. Very interesting concept.

just wondering if anyone has heard from Guy since his surgery???

in the middle of trying to integrate some of the little groups to the main groups- big cochins to the layer flock, little mutt chicklets to the banty flock- be alot easier once thats done-

off to play catch up

Yes, we had a nice visit at Blanchard shortly after his surgery. He was in fine spirit. Mike D saw him just Saturday night at Blanchard.

Jcatblum, been looking at that site for awhile now. Lots of good information there and I think that may be just what I was looking for. Thanks for the link.

Erinszoo, that's a good point on the length issue. I hadn't considered that. The only reason I chose that length was because my chicken run is 30' long and I am wanting to build a raised bed along the entire side of it. I figure it will be near a water source, provide afternoon shade for my birds and since I'm out at the run every day anyway I can take care of two things at once.

I appreciate the ideas guys. I think tomorrow I'm going to scrounge around the barn to see if I have enough material to get started on this.

Good COOL morning all, it is so nice to wake up to the cool air in the mornings, hope we all get some of the rain that is suppose to be on the way, the chickens are enjoying this weather too, our egg production is coming back up some. Have a great day all, Lynn

So there's more in the news today about West Nile. Seems we've had several reported cases. I'm wondering what would happen to a chicken who got bit by an infected mosquito?
I have a bird with dry pox and I understand this comes from the mosquioto. I have a small flock of yard birds so I don't believe I'm going to vaccinate. But what do you all think. Open to suggestions...

Carl THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for dubbing Nathanael's little roos. They are settled in their coops and doing fine. I will say I worried about doing it before hand but seeing how they acted as if it was no big deal made me feel better about it. He can't wait to get out there tomorrow to play with his new little pullet. You do know Nathanael is going to start thinking you are Santa Clause lol.

Cathiesue, the vaccine with shipping is under $20. I waited too long thinking it was no big deal and lost 4 birds to wet pox. Dry Pox isn't the problem, but you don't know which ones are going to just get dry pox and not wet pox. They can also get both forms. So I went ahead and ordered the vaccine and did every bird on the place. Nobody else broke out with anything after that and I didn't lose any more birds to it. With the wet form they get these yellow looking clumps in their throats and mouths, they get really sick.
