***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Nana nice looking bird's not manny of the blue tail ones around i seen some blue tail japs the other day at Eric Southerlands

Thanks Michael. These are some I got from Carl and they are really sweet tempered birds also.
I am breeding a Blue Columbian Wyandotte in the LF using some of Car'ls breeding stock. The are turning into some lovely creatures.

Are you still looking for birds to sell?
I'm going to have some extra pullets from my Australorp/Wyandotte project. I will cut from the program because of the tails or conformation. The 4.5 month old pullets are black with the Wyandotte peacomb. They should make nice layers of tan to brown eggs. If they take after the Australorp, they should be laying by 6 months of age.

Rather than go to freezer camp, also will have some roos from the same project...some of them are getting the Birchen look about their necks and some are solid black. And I have a blue Silver Laced Wyandotte roo and a regular SLW roo. These two are about 8 months old and want some hens.....

That makes me feel a whole lot better about the whole thing! Carl probably has done so many that he gets right down to business instead of hesitating and wasting time, I think that would stress the birds out more than anything else. Heck, little boys are circumcised without anesthesia so I don't really see the big deal with dubbing if done swiftly.

That's hardly a ringing endorsement. :/

uploading images has become a no-go here, the only way i can get them on is to upload to photobucket, copy the html code come back here click on 'source' paste the code, click on source and see if it works...sheesh!!

things seem to be settling down some here, the teens are getting into laying mode, so are griping all day... one of the orps sounds like she is going into labor.... or is doing raptor practice

If Micheal doesn't want the SLW roo we would give him a home here. Just let me know : )

Congrats Joe!!!!!

We got our secured area finished for the chicks several days ago and haven't lost any more, but they sure aren't happy about it, they were used to having the run of the place, now they are in a 10x16 yard. But better live unhappy chicks then in the belly of a hawk or cat.

Ari, my araucana boy is getting colorful. Can't wait to see how he "finishes"

I'm so surprised only 3 hatched. But great that they're all BBR because surely at least ONE is a boy

Let me know if you need more eggs to try to get tufts,

There are several alterations done to animals for human asthetics, tail docking, ear trims, and dubbing being just a few. I think it is purely a personal choice to do them or not. In the case of the dubbing momentary pain to have a life as a pampered show chicken seems like a small price to pay. There is a saying in medicine "no one ever died of pain" not meaning to be mean or callous, just that sometimes fixing the pain is more dangerous then letting it be.

Just got caught up. Jealous of those who were blessed with rain. Hopefully I will see some rain in the next 36 hours. My crispy yard would enjoy a nice shower. I am thankful for the nice cool temps, my garden is loving it too! We havent bought feed in over a month but ran in the commisary today to pick up a few groceries & picked up 40 bags of dog food. They had about 6 pallets of purina, different kinds. It was $3 for 18lb bag, not my favorite dog food but for $3 a bag I took a pallet full home. Figure it will last us 8 wks, maybe longer if I am lucky. The chickens are very fond of the dog food & if I don't close the pen before I let the chickens out all the dog food disappears. The comissary is getting ready to do a floor reset (rearrange the entire store) & they are closing for 2 days to do the over haul, I imagine the next wk there will be lots of good mark downs, so I will be checking back each time I am in town.

Cathie I am not sure if you can fermet grains with ACV in those metal drums. ACV can't be used in metal waters, so I would be scared to use it in the drums. I am not a metal expert, so you may want to ask around.

Nana, that pretty blue lady was on my screen when DD walked in-- you really shouldn't show off birds like that. Youngest girl of mine is always finding a new bird she needs! She thinks anything blue is a must have.

Michael glad you traded off the donkeys, they were so pretty. Thankfully Taron hasn't asked anything else about them.

Buster, we thought one of those chickens was dead today, went to pick it up & found it was alive & well. Think we collected one egg from them each day this wk. They are scratching in the pen everday, but at night they are still sleeping piled in the corner. Not sure if I will ever be able to put them in my main pen, think they will get picked on way bad. The Market Meeting was moved to next Thursday, try to make it...... think it will be an exciting meeting. We have been selling @ $3.50 for the past wk & only one person questioned it, but they still bought eggs. They have no issue with the raised price.
