Ksane so sorry for your losses

Mitzi sorry about the attack. One lone coon can cause lots of damage.

My girls didn't make it to the cement or anadarko shows. I haven't been feeling well & trying to prep birds for show & get to the shows was way more than I was interested in. I didn't announce the fairs to the girls & the day of cement fair they started asking to take some birds. It had just finished rained that weekend & the birds were kinda dirty looking IMO.

Anyone have plans for the holiday weekend. DH wanted to take kids to the water park, but I am sure it will be crowded. My sister wanted us to come out to the lake, but swimming in dirty lake water is not for me! Not sure what we will do, I would be happy planting some fall stuff & cleaning up the garden.

Actually in my case it's a little more along the lines of 'heartbreaking'. Although I can't help but be very thankful that (if it had to be the Moderns) it wasn't the male. I love Spideyman.
Does it sound like 2 coons to you to be able to get both girls? Or does it sound like cats or what? I'm pretty sure it wasn't dogs because they'd have had to get through too many fences.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It would break my heart too if my roo lost his favorite girl. One coon can be pretty damaging, especially if its a momma with kits or a group of young coons together. Yes, they can climb just about anything, thus why people get them in their attics and such. I can see a cat attacking a bird but they usually don't go for more than one at a time ... once they eat they tend to lay around until it digests before going after more, but once again, a momma teaching it's kittens how to hunt would fit the bill too.

Ooh, I'm with you on dirty lake water, especially after the hot summer we've had. But I wouldn't venture to a water park on a holiday either!! Not a form of relaxation that I find enjoyable.

We aren't going to do much I guess. Our son is coming home from college for the weekend so we might go to Wichita to a movie and out for supper or something one night. Otherwise we're going to Stillwater tonight to my mom's concert and then building shelves in the garage for storage out of the piles of free pallets we've gotten.

We have a five week old black frizzle cochin that we need to get rid of since we can't have roosters in the city. If anyone is interest I can post or send pictures. He is the sweetest little thing and LOVES attention. I'd rather find him a home from someone on here than put him on Craigslist. I'm in Bixby.

Bill - The amazing bulletin board you gave me is now the focal point in my classroom. We're using one side to display artwork, the middle is for assignments and due dates, and the far left side is for extra credit work and makeup work. Most questions can be answered by pointing to the bulletin board. It's a treat to watch students gather around the board to decide which extra credit assignment they want to take home over the weekend!!!! It's a miracle. Every classroom needs one. Thank you : )
I'm glad you're getting some use out of it, I still have a few of them left I haven't made up my mind what to do with them all but was thinking they sure would make a great bug collection display case LOL

MJ and Ksane, so sorry for your losses. Dogs and raccoons are the worst of the predators in my experience.
Thanks, Betsy. You had your share of losses also.
Hopefully your traps will catch the culprit and if it is a raccoon just remember the best way to get even for the loss of your birds is to bear in mind that raccoon tastes better than chicken and there is a lot more of it

I've had possum problems and cat troubles but by far the worse woes have come from the neighbors dogs and they haven't been a problem since last year a couple of my neighbors are still not liking me much but I get to keep my chickens and my rabbits haven't lost a toe or leg lately, I did come up short a duck a couple weeks ago I think that was a coyote they have been really close by for a while now,

Well I just received an email from a friend in Oregon that is on the Icelandic forum with me, it seems as though one of my Icelandic roosters is famous! Yeah! they are discussing him on the forum and also back in the homeland of Iceland because of a rare feather disorder he is having. There seems to be nothing wrong with him except he looks like a cross between an Icelandic and a Silkie, yes he has fuzzy feathers, and that is the topic of discussion, Icelandics are not suppose to have fuzzy feathers and there is no evidence of the Silkie breed or any similar ancestor that was in Iceland when the feral breed was "made". anyways, hope all is well with everyone, just thought I'd share my few minutes of fame! Lynn
