***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi all and a nice chilly day it is, was out this morning in it, cool and damp, light wind, nice snuggle weather!!! I must say we grew up on pinto beans and fried potatoes!! i love a plate with crumbled cornbread, fried potatoes and pinto beans all piled up in that order, then salt pepper and a little minced onion on top, stir it all up and eat it!!! It made me grow!!! my GGrandma put on a water bath canner size pot of beans every Monday morning and we ate two meals a day with pinto beans as the main course all week!!! AND I still love pinto beans today!!! But as soup goes my favorite has to be my Grandmother's Monkey Soup (otherwise know to others as Hamburger soup!!! LOL) But my "Nanny" (as we called her) made this for her little monkeys as she called us all the time, it is a tomato juice(or I use V-8) based, hamburger meat(browned with diced onion, salt and black pepper) and mixed veggie soup! I love it with hot cornbread on a cold day, always eat so much I regret it all night but it's worth it to me as is the memories of my Nanny!!! Welcome to all the newcomers, jump in and enjoy our forum! Hope all has a warm and happy evening!! Lynn

I used to love "monkey heads with scrambled brains". It was really just browned ground beef mixed with rice and tomato soup, stuffed in a bell pepper and baked with cheese on top. I tried making it for my kids but they didn't like it.

I loved stuffed peppers too but my "child" (read husband) hates them.

We have a hen w/ two bumble feet we have been treating, one was from a cut the other a thorn (I know b/c I got the thorn out.) Anyway here she is rocking her cool duct tape shoes

I couldn't keep the bandages on even though I got the ultra sticky ones I can never get peeled off of me, so duct tape it was, these had been in place for 24 hrs w/ her walking and sratching all over the yard all day. Right after this pic she got her "spa" tx (hot epsom salts and betadine soak) more antibiotic cream and then new shoes. lol

Neat idea. How did you get the tape off?

So it's getting pretty chilly outside and I have a duck and chick in a coop outside. The coop is about a 5x5x8 storage building style coop and has 2 windows for fresh air. Straw on the floor.
The chick is mostly feathered- lacking some feathers on her head and tush- and the duck is about half feathered. We have a light in the coop at night and most of today b/c of the sudden cold day.
I don't want them to freeze, but I don't want them to be dependent on the light....
What's the balance?
They don't look too cold. They don't sit right under the light, in fact they just are on the edge of the light.

I'm probably worried about nothing, but I feel better inquiring than just letting something fatal slide.

I think I would leave the light on tonight and close the windows for the night! JMO! Lynn

Salmon Faverolle chicks started hatching tonight. Hopefully about 15, they are pipping and cheeping right now.
I can't wait to see pictures. If I wasn't so worried about getting way too many more boys I'd be hatching right now, too. Faverolles chicks are the cutest stoutest little things.
