***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Headed home from Wyoming...sitting in Salt Lake City until a late flight to OKC. Hubby says it is 45 on Meeker and that the birds are all tucked in. Will be home in the morning. Going to stay with my sister inNorman tonight...taking her home so her husband would not have to get out at midnight to pick her up. Looking forward to seeing the flock and the babies after a week away.

Then little Mattie the Bantam Cochin girl with her Stolen Egg Babies, they're so cute.

awww...always a cute pic no matter what the chicks!!

looks like miss broody gave up after the cold last nite, she has been sitting on invisible eggs- and heaven help anyone that looks her way!!

my little faverolle roo has been kind of slow the last few days, he's eating but just not perky, almost like my duccle hen when she molts, just sitting-- would that be the weather?

P&B be thankful for mice, DH was moving a wood pile & said a rat ran out that is probally bigger than some of our chickens! I asked if he was sure it wasnt a opossium, he said nope a rat just like the ones that get in their field tents in Iraq. We don't see a lot of mice, think it has something to do with the abundance of snakes we have. However, still haven't caught the mouse I saw in the house a couple wks ago.
The thought of having rats instead of mice certainly puts mice in the proper perspective

Several years ago we had a problem with rats. I don't recall how much rat poison we put out before finally getting them under control. I was worried that one would die and the chickens would find it and get sick from trying to eat the dead rat, but fortunately they all seemed to die in the corners of the barn - away from the areas where the chickens had access. I wonder if chickens react to rat/mouse poison the same way that mammals react?

I think I would leave the light on tonight and close the windows for the night! JMO! Lynn
Thanks! That's what I did. Covered one window and left the light on.
They seemed just fine.

My birds were happy to see the sun today.
I worked the soccer game, the gals won 2-1 in a double overtime. It was exciting stuff! Then I came back home and my boyfriend and I started the privacy fence. We got the posts set on one side of the house.
This is a first for either of us. I've looked up lots of how-tos, but I am still nervous. I think we did fine today though. I'm just not sure what we need to do with this one difficult area around a utility pole, box, and old tree stump. :/ It also moves a bit uphill there.

Oh! My duck is half-quacking now. Never underestimate the cuteness of a half-quack.

Mitzi you are making me wish I had a place for your boys they are so pretty! We had to make a bachelor pen here. It has a BO roo, 2 Cuckoo Marans roos, and a Barred Rock roo in it. So far they are all getting along. I pray it stays that way until spring when I can move them to pens with girls of their own.

We had a bad case of rats in California. Nested in the engine of my car in fact. One day I turned her over and every "dummy" light was on.
I was pretty shocked when they called me with the news. We also tried everything but ended up with the battery operated mouse/rat traps
that take D battery's and poison as well. Nasty little things ate all my pumpkins too...

I always envied people who lived up there, the pictures of Wyoming are so beautiful. And so much space.

I had a bachelor pen last year with Silkies that didn't pan out so well. I think my mistake with putting my 3 Cochin boys together was probably because they were right next to the Cochin girls separated by only a fence. I'm going to hope for the best with these 4 also. I think I've got enough girls for each of them, it's just a matter of building them their own pens or yards. If worse comes to worse I'll order a batch of pullets only from Ideal

It's so hard to give them away to strangers on Craigs list after raising them :-(
