***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Before coffee this morning, added another little pen to the grow out section and separated the youngest babies....they looked too crowded in the one rabbit cage. I put down cardboard in the bottom with pine shavings so they don't have to stand on the wire bottom. When I checked last night, all but two of the 3 month olds were up on roost bars. The two on the ground were in a corner so I placed 2x12 boards on the outside to protect them from a skunk or racoon...just in case. This morning everybody was accounted for and happy as clams.

Enjoyed my coffee on the deck while the boys moved cows and then they were late for breakfast because they couldn't find the new calf....so they didn't move all the pairs. Some momma cows are pros at hiding out their babies.

Got to plant fall potatoes in the beds cleared of onions today and water, water, water. I need to spray the squash, pull the english peas and plant more cucumbers. Then pull the last of the spinach for the chickens and plant more radishes and lettuce.....then the yard needs mowing and weed wacking. Hope hubby gets back to help me with that.

I have jars of sand plum juice and blackberry juice that needs to be made up into jelly too...that's a hot day job for inside....maybe today or tomorrow.

Welcome to the new folks.

We lost little Spunky last night. Hoped for the best, but was expecting it. I never could get it to eat enough for a full crop.

Will post pictures later of the outside pen set up and Spunky cheeping to the mirror chick.

Oh, wait! I have eaten some jelly he or Dakota made. Lynn, I totally agree with City. Today would be a good day for making jelly. Particularly some jalepeno pepper or jalepeno cranberry jelly.

Lynn, I smell a rat, their suggestions for your health sound just as much about jelly as they do about you keeping cool. But you know jalepeno cranberry jelly sounds like it would be good poured ofer a block of cream cheese - that is a good spread for crackers especially the cornbread crackers I have now. Yes, you should stay in today!

I euthanized my little runt chick today, He just wasn't thriving and his two hatchmated were amlmost twice his size noe, even though they started as small as him/her. He/she clearly was begining to suffer, but still it was a hard thing to do.

On a good note - My three broodies are now hatching their chicks. Sure seemed to take forever. "A watched egg is never hatched"- T he hens fuss a bit but let me peak under. I also check to see if their non-broody "sisters" have layed any fresH eggs in the nest. Don't think two for the three will notice that their hatches aren't their "color". My Buff is hatching Partridges and my Mille Fleur is hatching Black over Self-blue.
Last week my Black hatched her chicks which are Self-blue over Black. I am toe punching opposite feet to keep the two combinations separate since they are all black. To get improved type in the Self-blues I next will cross them back to the Self-blue parents. This color is sure teaching me pacience!
Now that I have some really nice Blacks from Grace I should be moving the project along quicker. My Self-blues hardly look like Cochins beside Grace's beauties.

Oh man. That sounds awesome. I wish my chicken drama was resolved. I'd love to buy them.

Hey everyone... another Hot day here in Oklahoma....

Just chilling out for the day... and the family and I are discussing on whether or not the Cement Auction can be in our favor for evening entertainment.

I am enjoying the last remaining mini rex we have... our other three escaped the pen we had them housed in and became our weenie dogs target practice... Adrian is our "rodent killer" and we have noticed in the past year that we have no wild rabbits or squirrels in our yard like we once did and enjoyed before adopting her from a friend... now we know why! So we are bringing in the remining bunny and he has officially been titled... BENJAMIN BUTTONS BUNNY... and he is so gentle and kind... I am starting to love this lil guy...
