Any White Christmas reports? Hope everyone has a hot cup of java or hot chocolate...ho ho ho.
Checked in the barn and temps in the henhouse and brooder room were 40 and 42. One hen was waiting for me at the gate to get in..looked everywhere yesterday evening and didn't find any wayward birds when I locked up. It was 27 degrees this morning and she was ready to run inside. it is spitting here but no ice yet.
Snow! What snow? All we have here in Blanchard is a little glazing of ice. I hope it does keep the family from coming out later. If not I will be eating smoked turkey, ham, and bologna all week. going to try a brisket tomorrow.
Birds are doing fine, got cover over them. Had a heavy duty canvas tarp that i was going to wrap around the pens but my wife confiscated it and wrap the dog house really good. It is a 18x12 canvas with beeswax so no air will get through it. she said that the dogs were more important than the chickens. !st I ever heard her say that.
Nothing white here yet, but we are glazing ice on everything but the actual road so far. I worked at the Webber station yesterday and when I left there this am, they didn't even have ice yet.
We're covered in a thick layer of ice here. No snow
DH isn't up yet, so I don't know how his parents are faring in OKC.
All the birds are fine with the exception of one cranky, crotchety older standard Cornish. He will not roost. He refuses. He has a raspy cough this morning. I've moved him from the coop to an isolation cage in the barn. Maybe a few days by himself, and out of a draft, will help. Anyone have any ideas about "teaching" a rooster to use a roosting bar?
It would be nice if it would snow, just a light dusting here so far, An inch of snow equals a quarter inch of rain so I was sure hoping for a foot of snow LOL we could sure use the water and I'll take it any way it can get here but this storm looks like it's gonna miss me like all the others have all this year...
I hope everyone that is getting weather is staying safe and warm
Just wanted to check in to see how everyone was handling the snow storm.
We have lots of snow & it is suppose to keep coming for a few hours. Kids went out & opened the goat pen before it began snowing, but they have refused to even leave their shelters. Only seen them peak their heads out. Guess they knew the snow was coming. When the snow slows down the girls will have to go take them some treats.
It's nice to have a day inside just snuggled up with the kids & DH.
