***OKIES in the BYC III ***

400

I absolutely adore days that I am able to meet a new human. ;)
Newborns are by far my favorite subjects.
I just wanted to share a moment from my day.

Also, my boyfriend's mom, Sue Ann, bought us some beautiful repainted antique chairs today. I'm picking them up tomorrow. I'm excited to share a photo with you all.

On a completely different note:
I'm looking for straw in the tahlequah area. The coop has small bales for $7, but I would support a small farmer if the price is comparable.

Carrie - I'm hoping to have several people join in. Knowing that someone else is making the decision to put those shoes on and leave the house to walk is inspiring. Each day, you record your mileage and anything else that you think might be useful: weight carried, number of dogs that chased you when you walked past the creepy house, decisions about what not to carry because you never use it, things like that. You share the information with your virtual walking partner at least twice each week. Every two or three weeks you check your mileage against your goals. You don't have to have the same goals. My sister has two children who will walk with her each day, so she can't expect to cover more than a few miles at a time. She'll use a pedometer to keep track of her mileage.

I'll walk mile sections and keep track that way. I'll do four miles until that's easy, and then I'll move up to six. I need to be able to cover fifteen miles in one day without suffering. When I can do that, I'll be ready to walk the Camino. DH says I need to get a cattle prod before my training starts. He's worried that some farmer's dog will mistake me for a wild two-legged camel. I wonder how much a cattle prod weighs?

Congrats on the hatches.
Mike I would love to bring you some roos - maybe even some layers-- just have to get Taron to agree.

Coral I think your goals are amazing. DH will do 16-25 mile road marches pretty often but he is always hurting after & exhausted. (2 prior knee surgeries take a toll) Wearing a pedometer & tracking steps I use to be able to do at least 5 miles just from a normal farm day. Imagine it will take several more months before I am close to that again!

Don't have a pic, but my first 2013 babe is a paint Showgirl, hatched by its moms today! Not planning to incubate for awhile, and very few of my pens have hens on eggs.
That is an extra special bird for a first chick!
My Showgirl is doing great. Her topknot is growing. I've got to get some pics.

I am confused, are you training walking to actually go to Europe for a month and walk it, or are you virtually walking the same distance here as you would if you did the walk in Europe?

MJ, I want you to be sure to post pics of that sweet Showgirl when she is more mature. I'm eager to see how she develops as I'm sure she'll be an extra special beauty!

I will train here by walking between 480 and 500 miles. In June of 2014, I'll take a plane to France, ride a train to Saint Jean de Port, and from there I'll walk to the cathedral in Compestella, Sapin. I will test the shoes, pack, and other equipment during training. I want to be sure I'm not taking extra "junk" for the actual trip.
