***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Lovely weather we are having in tahlequah today. For lots of chores done and half of the privacy fence put up around my yard!!
Just need two more days like this and I think the fence will be done! Woohoo!

GiineaGuy, I sent you an e-mail with about all I can guess. It would be a good idea to post your question here; there are several who are very good at working with similar problems--they know a lot more about them than I do.

I got my Marans by accident. I bought some chicks from Atwoods and a couple were Marans. I thought I was buying Barr Rocks. The chicks were black with the white patch on their heads. Safe to say I wasn't too disappointed. They are good layers and friendly.

Okay fellow Okies, where should I go to buy black copper marans??
If your looking for top quality French Balck Copper Marans, I'm not sure who here in Oklahoma has them, but I got mine from Bev Davis, you can order chicks, eggs or started pairs from her. I've been trying to find some around here but haven't had much luck.

Porcelain is what they are calling it so far, but running into complications, so the name will undoubtedly change at some point. She's a really nice one!
i think she is my favorite silky color.... i have some i hatched from shipped eggs that are splash, but she is just elegant compared to them!

Think Cathie will have marans soon. Previously got some from OKCarla a few yrs back. The few we have now came from Jack- he is MJ neighbor- so maybe she will chime in, I think Jack is hatching weekly still.
Anyone else seeing increase in eggs lately? I am thinking some of my pullets have just started laying. We are getting about 2 dz eggs a day now. Can't imagine how many we will be getting come spring.

Hey everybody I have a Cochin pullet who until yesterday was happy go lucky now she acts like her balance/equilibrium is off and she don't want to walk or roost she sits still. Is bright red faced and makes typical pullet noises of being happy weight seems good still to. No outside birds and they free range when I get home and let out for couple hours with the guineas. Any ideas?

Got home from our two week vacation at dusk tonight, dumped everything in the house and ran around to check on everyone. We are THREE short. Neighbor stopped by to say he stopped a stray dog that got in and killed one yesterday and called animal control to get it hauled off- I'm pretty sure it was the blue Ameraucana hen that it got. :( :( :( Also missing Daisy, our French Black Copper Maran hen with the pretty leg feathering, and one of the Rhode Island Reds. I hope those two have just decided to sleep somewhere besides the coop for the night but it was too dark to find them by the time I realized they were missing.

There go our spring breeding plans for those two breeds.... we were supposed to breed the Ameraucana to her son this spring, guess we'll hold on to dad and breed him to the one girl we saved. We still have the pair of FBCM, two pairs that are only a few months old, and a set in the garage brooder, but I REALLY liked that hen. Hope she shows up in the morning....

Rinda
