***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm so new to this that I'm not sure. I have a black australorp right now and she is a doll. I love that she has so much personality. I've heard they are great layers as well. Haven't gotten to that part yet.

Joe - I'm going to do my best to make it to the show. I'd really like to show one of my White Chanticleer roosters. They are both beautiful birds, but the one in this photo is friendly and has been handled quite a bit, so I think he may be a better candidate. What do you think?

Kass - Do you remember this Easter Egger cockerel (right side)? He was our lesson bird. The standard Cornish (on the left) is a "C" from two weeks later. They are within 1/2 lb. of each other (the Cornish is heavier). They will both go into the freezer soon. If I wait any longer, I won't have a freezer bag large enough for storage. I'll weigh them before and after processing and let you know how they turned out. These two capons share space with a Shamo Rooster, his three hens and a black Marans hen. No fighting, no biting. I love it.

Robin - I may be able to work with your boys this weekend. I have stressed about the pens in the barn, and the potential for drafts (though it seems okay), so I've been waiting for warmer days and nights. The barred Cochin talked up a storm when I added hay to the dog crate tonight. Sounded like he was telling me I wasn't putting enough in. He used to bite me, when he first came to visit, but now he's a forearm sitter. I have a feeling he will mellow quite a bit more after the change.

Big, fuffy birds like Brahmas (sp), Orpingtons and Standard Cochins are very sweet and mellow. I heard that since they are so big and fluffy they are slow to get away so they just accept the attention from people.

I picked my Cochins for their temperment. I just love them. I have Ameraucanas and La Fleche too. The Ameraucanas are somewhat friendly and the La Fleche are very shy but are so beautiful...... my Cochins were my first choice and I love them more and more.

Nice lookin Greys!!! Are they Standard size or Bantum???

Greys? Are you asking about these two? I guess they do look like Greys because after they are caponized, their hackle and saddle feathers tend to grow longer than what's normal for an unaltered rooster. The standard Cornish capon is on the left and the Easter Egger capon is on the right. There is a black Maran hen between them. They feel like turkeys when I pick them up. They are as mellow as hens, and they are getting rounder every day.

Well as usual here lately I have not been on much but I am checking in to let those that know me know that I am still kickin and to welcome the new people that dont know me. I dont know how many of you will remember Stray (Megan Smith on FB) the young dark haired girl from our Poops gatherings from OKC, well for those that do and have not heard from her in a while, I talked to her today, she still lives with her mom and dad in OKC but no longer has any chickens, she asked me to give her love to all her BYC friends, so I am passing that along, also I found out she is 33.5 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, her sister is having a baby shower for her on Feb 17 and thats all the info she had on that at the time, she had clothes and diaper for a newborn, but needs most anything else i am sure she would welcome diapers or coupons for diapers, I think she needs a baby bed and other stuff also if you could help, if you cant contact her and have something to get to her, contact me at [email protected] or FB as Lynn Scrogum and I will try to get stuff to her. She is a good kid in a scary world, the dad to the baby she said it trying to help and they are working on stuff together. Anyways I also briefly spoke to Monty and left a message fro Carl and Stephanie Jarvis if anyone sees her tell her to check her messages on FB!!! LOL Thanks all and have a safe and wonderful evening!!! Lynn
