I'm glad you joined us! I enjoyed the picture so your coops on the yard sale site. I sure wish I had the money for one. (Not that I need it right now. But I could always get more chickens.) Look forward to seeing you around!!

Welcome Johnouthouse and unkljim... Nice to see you join.

The boys are out welding up a broken hay feeder and so the birds can't freerange until they get done. The geese got moved to a grass pen away from the welder...the boys think that looking at the hot spot on the welder could blind them. Since it can burn a human eye, could an animal.
A neighbor brought me a bag full of garlic plants out of her garden so in a few I'll go out and plant them in the garden in a bed that is ready.
Put my seed order in yesterday....whew. Going to start lots of tomato and pepper plants this year instead of buying them. Will plant lettuce and cold crops to transplant too. Will have to run 2 foot wide chicken wire around the outside of the garden to keep the freerangers out.. maybe....they are definitely persistant.

Just saying howdy. Everyone have a good Saturday and enjoy this nice weather.

We're going to be working on hanging some siding and planting peas today. Have to wait til next week to have the money to do any more work on the new chicken coop. Will try and post pics as we go along.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It sprouted like this and it's first true leaves are coming out albino as well. I did an internet search and couldn't find anything. Just wondering if it will produce albino fruit as well. It's a winter squash plant from and heirloom seed company but all the other seeds came up green like normal and this one came out yellow. I thought it would green up as it got light but it hasn't. As you can see the other plants are all normal looking. I swear I get the oddest plants ever ...

Assuming we get our chicks in the next couple of weeks, what are the essentials we need to have to care for them? I have done the reading on the site about raising chicks and it seems pretty basic, but I want to make sure I am not missing any integral parts. There are a couple of starter kits at Atwoods, both under $20, but considering what I have heard so far about Atwoods, not sure it is a good idea or worth it. What do y'all think?

Nice weather today. I'm putting up 500 ft of wire fence in my yard. I'm about halfway done and my wrist is killing me. Been thinking about moving some plants and planting some more pine trees and iris this spring.
Once I get done fencing in the yard then I'll start laying out the ground plans for the new chicken house and run. I wish I could keep it simple and small but I miss my turkeys that are at my ex's house and I want to bring them to my house.

Some have told me she is a Welsummer but you may be right I don't know I'll know when she lays an egg she has not laid don't know why sh's 1 year old
If she has been thru a trauma like the attack it may have put her off laying for a few weeks. My hens quit for nearly a month after my dog attack.
How long did you have your birds before the attack? It can take hens a couple of weeks to aclamate to a new home before they start to lay again
