***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I got some iris moved yesterday, that is what I will be doing today moving iris. I may dig up and move some small forsythia starts while I'm at it, just incase the forsythia I am trying to root don't
I've never tried to move forsythia before, do you just dig up new shoots? I need to move some iris too but we've just finished building a new raised bed against the house for the peas to go in since they were already sprouting in the soaking bowl. Lol. Have my order ready for Starks next week for some Arapahoe blackberries and native plums/beach plums. They are going to go along the south side of the new chicken yard to shield it from the alleyway plus they will get good sunlight there.
You all have been very busy! I've got my 4 Dark Brahma girls and my 4 Ameraucana girls mixed in with my Cochin group now, the rooster in there is 1/2 Faverolles and 1/2 Orloff, he's huge but only like 5 months old. The threat of disease from mixing my own birds together is far less than what the wild birds brought in this winter. Killed so many of my sweet babies.
A HAWK had ahold of my Black Ameraucana girl last week. The crows were screaming (I wasn't home, my daughter was). My daughter ran out there and the hawk couldn't get a good hold on the hen. My daughter said he wouldn't let go and fly off until she was almost on him(my Am girl was bloody but ok). I came rushing home, that's the day I moved that group into the Cochin yard. It's more protected and close to the house. My husband saw 3 Crows dive bombing a hawk today, they chased it off. Do crows do that?
Could I talk anyone into 2 Orpington roosters for free? Not yet a year old. When I bought them we thought they were all pullets (so did the seller).
We've had a hawk here bothering our birds too!! I came home one day and all of the chickens were huddled together under the honeysuckle and my roos were crowing their heads off. Even my turkeys took cover in the duck shelter. The hawks must be hard up to be hunting my chickens in town when there are fields less than a mile from the house. Crows will chase off hawks and owls and ocassionally take on a vulture.

Got the new raised bed finished and the peas planted finally. We had to hang new siding behind the trellis which involved not only moving the trellis but moving a hand rail for the back steps too. Whoever put it in used 4 inch bolts. We thought we'd never get those stupid things out. Then we picked up some more pallets today, big long ones with fence posts attached to them, and took a couple apart to start on the upper floor of the new coop. Also picked up mortar and concrete to start on the cordwood walls for it. Since I have tomorrow off as well hopefully we can finish the flooring and get the foundations poured for the walls. I'm so excited to start the cordwood building. I just wish I had a piece of land where I could build my house and use all these techniques we've learned doing smaller stuff. Someday ...

Yes that is what I'm doing digging up the new shoots (well bigger then shoots) but not the main bush. I got 8 dug up and transplanted to where I want a new hedge. I got about 40 feet of iris moved too. And dug up several tree saplings from the roots to remove them from an area I didn't want any trees (especially those trees).

Is anyone in the SE OK area interested in some California/NZ cross rabbits? I have a breeding pair and 8 (born Christmas Day) babies. I have weaned the babies off mama.

Have one nice sized handmade single hutch, two water bottles and one metal feeder to go with them, I am getting away from the rabbits and sticking with my chickens, turkeys and ducks..

Would take 75.00 for all or possible trade for Ameraucanas, or hatching eggs, Wheaten Marans or hatching eggs or Cayuga duck hens or hatching eggs. Eggs must be fertile...I know my rabbits are

This is the doe and babies, babies are light gray, white, white with gray tips, and some thats like light gray with bands of white. This is NOT the hutch. Had to use my dog crate to separate the buck and doe, because DH has yet to build me another hutch, like he said he would.

Mama getting her nest ready. Nest box will not come with the rabbits, I plan on using it for a brood box for my hens, if and when I ever get a broody.

This might be odd to ask here but I can't seem to find anything elsewhere on the site...Does anyone know the date of the next P.O.O.P.S. event? Or did I miss it for 2013?

You posted in the correct spot. There hasn't been any talking of planning poops for this yr. Those who have done most of the planning over the past yrs are not on the thread often. I think each time the persons who orginized the event have worked very hard without being able to enjoy the event themselves.

I received a rooster from my father in law he didn't know what he was so I figured I would ask on here his body is white but he has brown flecks in his saddle and hackles with black tail with a greenish sheen, he is good sized bird probably 8 to 10 lbs, I was figuring a rhode island white crossed with a rhode island red I know pictures would help but i cant figure how to send them.

I really hope we have a get together this year. It doesn't have to be such a big event this time, just a potluck and exchange opportunity would be fine with me. If we can find an outdoor pavilion somewhere that will let us bring chickens it could work and be less work for planners. And I don't mind helping plan. Is the Tulsa area one still going on?

I don't know, but if you have the picture on you computer, just hit the little picture icon on the top of the reply board and browse for your pic.

I have divided Flowering Almond that way. My Grandmother had it in her yard and it makes me think of her. It even is pretty in the winter. The branches are red.
