We found out this week that the people we are buying this home from are in legal trouble. They are needing cash fast so are requesting we pay this place off or move in 60 days. So we are moving. We have 58 days to find a place and move. We will be selling birds in case we don't find a place and have to move back to our home in town. We need around 5-10 acres with at least a 3 bedroom home. Mobiles are fine. The kids are heartbroken to give up their pets and we have told them we will find a way to keep what birds we can. Please let me know if you know of a place. Prefer owner finance but will rent if we have to. School dist doesn't mater since we homeschool. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that, what a mess. Good luck, maybe you can find someone to care for your pets for the short term, maybe in return for feed money.

I hope you are able to find a place soon. You might consider contacting a real-estate agent. It shouldn't cost you anything. Many agents own property that they don't live in, and these properties can be rented, leased, or purchased, depending on the plans of the agent. I've seen many signs for RENT and for SALE in Haskell, which is were we live, so I know there are houses with a little acreage available in this part of the state.

NanaKat, I've not noticed die-off after hostas setting seed. I haven't gathered seed for several years now, as the deer are eating my hostas and my yard has gone completly down since I've not been able to tend to it (2 acres). I'm making a bit of progress now, but still won't do nearly what I used to because of gophers, deer, etc. I have a large number of hosta seeds in my freezer that I'll probably try starting this year or next. As long as they are kept sealed and frozen, they'll stay viable for many years.

Oh Cathie! The week keeps dishing it out. I know you love y'all's place. Plus you have put so much work into pens & such. My heart truly goes out to you. We will be happy to foster any birds if needed. I do hope you find something quickly. Check Craigslist (it's the only place we advertise our rentals now, we always get a good response) & put a wanted ad up, cant hurt right? We actually found this place through a tiny 3 line classified ad in the newspaper. On the plus side, you have a good live in moving crew. So sorry you are going through all this!!!!!

Those I know who grow them for market plant in late September or early October. Cover if temps drop below 16 & harvest in April-May. They can handle a good amount of frost, but some have said once temps drop in teens plants can die. I know people do plant them in the spring, but better production comes if you plant them in the fall (at least in our area).
