***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Buster thanks for letting me know. I don't think the girls & I are going to sell at market this yr. They want to sell, but I won't have full clearance from doctors until at least June. Plus my energy levels are very unpredictable right now. DH may try to make the farm auction, if he isn't working.
Taron is looking forward to the Blanchard auction. Don't know what all she is bringing yet, but she sure has been upset missing the past few months.

Just as well, Christina. They have raised the dues to $40 and the weekly charge to $10. For somebody like me who mostly sells eggs, that's pretty rough. Once you pay your $50 in state licensing fees, the $40 dues, and $10 for the first week's charge for a spot, you are shelling out $100 before you sell a single dozen. With the cost of feed so high, the cost of care, and the fact that laying drops in the heat of the summer (which means you feeding a percentage of your flock for nothing), it is going to be tough making any profit. Ronnie is thinking about foregoing it altogether and focusing on his on-farm sales.

I voted against that and the rest of the bylaws, but you know how they ramrod things like this through in Lawton. I can tell you I will be pushing for higher minimum prices on eggs next month's meeting. I may not be living here, and it may very well be my daughter who is doing most of the actual farming, but I still have a stake in this deal. Plus, it needs to be done for the other small growers and egg producers. If that doesn't work out, we may just skip this year.

Sorry to hear about your energy levels and such. I can definitely relate to that lately. It is rough having medical restrictions when you want to do so much. I have been feeling better last couple of days, but you never know how that is going to go day to day, so I'm still moving on.

Kass, is there a section of the forum or a certain thread where I can treat my crochet addiction? I hadn't crocheted in a while and I needed a few fresh props for my clients. So I started crocheting and can't stop or slow down! Lol. I just found some killer deals on eBay and went yarn crazy. And my room is covered in projects. Lol
It went from props to backdrops for newborns to gifts for all my friends. Ha!

In addition to the one Robin posted it you go to the top of the page and mouse over the forum tab then mouse over the misc. drop down tab, the click on the hobbies tab there are several crochet threads.

Oh and very pretty work. The flower swap is still open.

Well the last two turkey eggs of the hatch are pipped. Waiting on them to zipper now. It's weird though, we haven't heard them peep at all. The others were all chirping and cheeping up a storm before they hatched. It's so interesting the difference between getting chicks shipped and hatching our own. We haven't lost any hatching our own but we always lose birds when they are shipped. Hmmmm, guess it's getting jostled and not having consistent temps??? Whatever ... I hope I get some of these sold. Not sure what I'll do with 19 new turkeys otherwise. I'd have to buy a new freezer or give up gardening and let them have the rest of the yard (which isn't going to happen). Hope the snow melts soon so we can get the greenhouse fixed before the next round. Have a great day all!!

Sorry about the flu spunkychickenmomma! Hope you have a quick recovery.
Erin, how close is the nearest auction? You won't have a problem selling the poults at auction.
Buster thanks for the info on the meeting. Add in the price of your sales tax permit & you are well over $100 in expenses. They said they wanted small & large producers alike, but it seems they are pushing the small producers out.

Tested positive this morning for the flu. Guess I know what my plans for the next several days

oh, sorry hope you got some tamiflu and get well soon

How many of us have Belgian d'Anvers bantams in our flocks and what varieties are available. I've had someone ask me and I figure there are several breeders here in Oklahoma....
Mine are mostly roosters... One Porcelain, one Black, two Mille Fleur, two Ginger, and my single hen Miss Piggy is a Buff Columbian.

Besides BFrancis who else is breeding these?

back from jury orientation- looks like 3 weeks calling in every day to see if i am needed- so it won't be back to back days, thank God! I was really stressed over that- and since i do have PTSD from child abuse, i can request to not be part of a trial of that nature- and what really surprised me was the said the Pledge of Allegiance! Under God...! now that was a pleasant surprise! and no problem with crocheting- i sure stress over the littlest things-

meanwhile, come home to my gorgeous black giant cochin working with mites AGAIN.... i am at my wits end on this- so into the tub and ivermec again.... and powdering after she is completly dry
