Amy,
in the event you read this your Cochin chicks have started to hatch and will be ready to pick up Monday or tuesday evening after 5 but preferably before 7:30 as I will be working an early shift all week and 3 am comes early.

Good Morning! :)

I hope y`all set your clocks forward last night...if not your gonna be late!

I thought I had a broody yesterday so I pulled a dark :30 run down to the barn this morning hoping to catch her on the nest....she was on the roost! I guess I`ll pull those eggs and start over. It`s a shame, there is over a dozen eggs in there.

I hope y`all have a great day!

That's a beautiful hen. She'll be fierce as a momma when she does go broody. If the number of setters and practicing setters at our place is any indication, you won't have to wait long. The boys are strutting and the girls are making nests. Broody hens will be everywhere soon. Gorgeous. That's a better word. She's a gorgeous hen.

3:00 a.m. isn't early, it's downright torture. A bazillion years ago I did factory work, and when we went from standard shifts on a normal forty-hour work week to working four ten-hour days on shifts, I thought my head was on backwards most of the time. It took monts to get acclimated, and even then I wasn't able to enjoy my waking hours as I had before. Here's to hoping you are able to work in the daylight hours and sleep in the nighttime hours. Body clocks work best that way. Oh yeah... speaking of clocks... I'd better go set mine. I forgot to do that before bed last night. Looks like I lost an hour

Joe - Here's the European Orp roo saying, "Quit pushing me!" It was really windy after the rain quit. His free-range pal today is a FBCM roo. The wind picked up a bit so the FBCM looks a little like Rod Stewart, or a lion, or like he's been using one of those wall-unit electric key cleaners . . . My brain hurts. I need a weekend without lesson plans.

Amy, sounds like your little Cochin feather butts are hatching on time at Carl's house and you will get to satisfy your addiction.

Okracefan, yes they are large fowl Blue Cochins. The pen Amy's chicks are from is a Blue rooster hatched from eggs I bought at auction last year from Bo's blue pen 3 hens hatched from eggs from JHeintz in Iowa and my Delilah that I got from Carl. The eggs Amy got yesterday are from those same hens and Samson, the rooster I got from Carl when he decided to get out of large fowl to focus on his beautiful Bantams.
I have over 50 chicks from the first pen and am now collecting eggs from Samson's pen. I also have some more Cochin roosters out of Bo's eggs that are simply gorgeous and two of his white hens. I'm loving the Cochins.

Of course, Im also loving my Columbian Wyandottes and my Birchen Wyandotte project birds and the Blue Wyandottes and......

glad you got them a new home so quickly....hope the kids enjoy them...and yes I am liking the pheonix and houdans, can't wait to see them as they grow out, the phoenix are a bunch of little spaz's. they go nuts when I get near the brooder...lol. One of the houdans has a taller crest, think that will will be the roo?

What kind of game cock are you looking for? Hubby got a LF crele colored gamecock (at least it looks gamey to me) at the auction last month. I plan on putting him with some Arkansas Blues I hatched out. You really need to attend the wister auction one Friday. Might find ya a couple there.

Don't take them all OKracefan!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will arm wrestle you for some and Rebecca would too.

Well here's our strawberry planter finally finished. It's like everything else in our world, put together with pieces and parts that we could find and make work. Lol. Hopefully, soon I will have even more exciting photos of our new coop. We started pouring concrete footing today for the cordwood walls. My husband will finish with the footings tomorrow while I start on the walls ... I hope. Best laid plans. Still trying to figure out how to incorporate colored glass bottles into it.
That's my favorite kind of project! Nothing like up cycling. :)
I know there are lots of repurposers here on this thread so I thought I'd share an idea that was shared on my FB, I thought it was ingenious!!!! http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-Shingles-and-Siding-Out-of-Aluminum-Cans-Bee/?ALLSTEPS
That's fantastic!
Today was a horrible day here at my house. A day I knew in my heart was coming, but hoped would not. Gardening won't be the same this year, Yeta the wonder chicken is gone. Everyone knows she wasn't one to be stopped by a fence, well today she hopped the wrong fence. My heart is heavy, but she got a better life then a lot of other chickens.
:( I'm so sorry for your loss.

Great looking birds! And how funny! My black Australorp makes some unhappy sounds when the wind pushes her around. And then she starts fixing her feathers with complete attitude.

I am currently running the maintenance dept. as well as working with Quality and engineering to upgrade equipment, process and proceedure so the hours seem endless and vary widely inclusive of days and nights ussually around 60 hrs by thursday morning and working through Saturday so my time around is short and make the most of what I have. This has resulted in really cutting back hard and culling harder than normal so I have fewer to care for and only the best of them get to stick around. Still running 4 breeder pens of Birchen 2 Silver Blue, 4 columbian 2 Brown Red, 2 Opal and thats the OE then 2 pens for the Birchen Rosecomb, 1 Black, 1 blue, 1 BB red so I still have my hands quite full.
Without the stress relief these birds give me I would loose my mind.
