***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am currently running the maintenance dept. as well as working with Quality and engineering to upgrade equipment, process and proceedure so the hours seem endless and vary widely inclusive of days and nights ussually around 60 hrs by thursday morning and working through Saturday so my time around is short and make the most of what I have. This has resulted in really cutting back hard and culling harder than normal so I have fewer to care for and only the best of them get to stick around. Still running 4 breeder pens of Birchen 2 Silver Blue, 4 columbian 2 Brown Red, 2 Opal and thats the OE then 2 pens for the Birchen Rosecomb, 1 Black, 1 blue, 1 BB red so I still have my hands quite full.
Without the stress relief these birds give me I would loose my mind.
Amen to that.

Just curious about wing clipping. I've heard about, but don't know about the pros and cons nor how to go about doing it.
I clip some of my chickens wings (only clip one wing) do this makes them off balance so when they try to fly they are unable to catch wind evenly so they can't fly very high. I do this to some of mine cause they fly over the fence they are safer inside their fenced yard . but the con of this is they can't fly so if something gets inside the yard they may not be able to get away. I have a hot wire around my fence so have not had anything get inside. It does not hurt em when you clip wings the right way if you cut blood feathers they will bleed kinda like when you cut your nail in the quick here is a article on wing clipping has good pictures.

Hope this helps!

man i hate leg cramps ... makes it so hard to sleep
Sounds like you need to find someone to give you a good leg massage before bed. I have that problem a couple of times a year, and my better half does them wonders.

Don't know what I'd do without her. Hope you can work the cramps out and get a good nights sleep.

Hi everyone, had a long day and drive yesterday, Went to Vian to meet with Donnie and headed back south with 8 pretty little Silver Pheonix and 4 Mottled Houdan chicks, love, love, love them! Thank you so much and was great meeting you!
On the way home, I stopped by the Wister auction that had around 1500 head according to auctioneer Robert Crozier, and purchased a pretty little Serama pullet for my roo and a pair of Blue Brassy Back, all three from Villamil Farms. We left around 1:45 am, and the auction was still going, poor Joe! I was so tired I totally forgot to thank Joe for bringing the pullet, so thank you Joe!
I look forward to seeing what you bring to the next one. (still need a bantam Cochin...hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

it's all good, I figured you were late getting home, so I really wasn't expecting a reply too soon...lol.
I have gotten an egg from the blue brassy hen already, I was shocked actually, with being at the auction and then being rehomed, of course my son was the one who found it and was bringing it to me and dropped it....ugh!

I wanted to get the spangleds too, but the boy wouldn't leave me alone and I missed them.

The little serama roo and pullet are getting along famously! You could almost see the look of gratitude on his face, when I put her in there with him...lol.
about how old is she? and is there any way I could trim the blue roo's spur? one is really long, should I trim it, or will it fall off maybe?

the serama pullet is 5 1/2 mounths old and could start laying anytime

yes i should have trimed the blue brassy spure sorry about that there are a couple of ways to do it
you can sawl it off about 1/2 inch long
you can twist it off this will make it bleed but it will quickly heal leaving a new small spure
