***OKIES in the BYC III ***

DGibson...cute alpacas and sure make nice chicken entertainment.
Christina...sure hope Bambi dominoes soon.

Picked up feed this afternoon at S&S. Layer pellets have stayed the same price for a while. ...thank goodness. Twelve bags (600 pounds) lasts about five weeks.....about 15 pounds a day for the layer flock and breeding pens....and that's just for the adults.

And picked up chicks from Carl too. Great looking chicks out of the breeding pens. The eggs hatched from pen #10 where the rooster died so I was really pleased to get those 7 chicks. And there were 6 to hatch from pen # 15 from Samson, Delilah and the Iowa triplet. All the babies were really peeping on the ride home...love that sound.

The 3 eggs from the other early croaker rooster in pen 11 are in my incubator after candle so hoping there is a good hatch. I sure would like to get at least one good looking cockerel and pullet to hold the genetics.

Weatherman on 4 was saying we will get another freeze in mid April and advising people to wait on planting their tomatoes. I don't know if my chickens are going to like that.

thanks for the warning, brought my seedlings in, not sure if the cold killed the cana's i had planted or not

has anyone had hens go on strike and not eat pellets? i was shifting mine to pelletss but they aren't buying it- and their egg production has dropped to only a few eggs a day

Could you mix half and half crumbles and pellets for a few days to teach them to eat it?

My hens have slowed down too but I thought it is because of the confusing temperatures.

I read some where on here that several ppl had there layers drop in egg production on the pellets and they were going to stick to crumbles, my chickens always seemed to have a hard time eating them so i have given up on the pellets i just feed them the crumbles.

If chicken gets hungry they will eat pellets. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Promise they won't starve. When you put aspargus on your kids plate do they rush to eat it? Not usually.

Still on kid watch. Spent the night watching her. Got the human kids up at 5 to take over watch duty. Who knows, she could hold that baby in another wk just to get the extra attention. Thankful tonight won't be as cold.
