***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass, I can asparagus. It is too mushy if blanched and frozen.
MJ, thanks of all the work on the POOPs tshirts. No, won't have asparagus at POOPS...I have family that eats it.

We have lots of thunder and lightening right now...no rain yet....but it's coming . The dogs have me covered..using Red's back as a desk right now. We have discussed loading the dogs into the truck and heading away from the storm if a tornado is in our area...the cellar is full of water. I have two incubators full of eggs..one in lockdown. And 250 tomato plants in the hot tub room.

On a brighter note, I gave three lockdown eggs to a broody Blue Wyandotte hen that has been sitting on an empty nest for 25 days...toughest bird to break I've ever had. She actually blew up her feathers when I gave her the eggs and hissed at me....lol...she's going to make a great Mom. And gave two eggs to Delilah to hatch. She's been broody for two weeks and has been stealing eggs from the other Cochin hens.

Those of you with goats, have you ever met Sky Shivers from Prague. He is a big meat goat breeder/enthusiast.
nope, but i don't go to many goat shows or other things.

I would like to sneak a blue hen into my flock. I have LF Roo that I am going to be getting rid of. Might take to Newcastle or hold off till POOPS.
1000
It is the black one with goldish neck feathers.

We don't go to goat shows here either. Taron thinks showing is neat, except the part where you have to be there all day & not do anything except wait your turn & wait until the end. She has selective ADD.
I am still waiting for my Nubian to kid. She spent a lot of time laying in the shelter today, but no signs of labor. Hatching eggs is much more predictable.

hey guys, i was wondering - is it normal to have loud mouth chick? emily's little hatching is constantly chirping- wondered if she is just opinionated or uncomfortable

Ye.e.e.s.s.s....... I'll bring some to POOPS. I bought eggs at NewCastle that were from Bo's blue pens. Hatched some gorgeous Blue, Black and Splash cockerels. They have been paired with hens hatched from eggs I got from Jim Heinz from Iowa and from Carl's line. The girls are Blue and Splash. The chicks have been Blue, Black and Splash with nice wide heads and great feathering on their feet and tails.
Jim sent me this picture of the sister to my girls. She now belongs to Debs_flock and won Champion Asiatic March 30 at a show in California. He was sure pleased. Here is her photo. ....will have to add it from my computer...having trouble loading from my iPad.

I can't believe I made it 46 years without chickens. The next 46 are going to be full of them.

Usually it means something is wrong. Is she a loner or does she have friends? If she is a sole chick try giving her a feather duster to snuggle under, or a stuffed animal, or even a little mirror so she can see herself. Is she too hot/cold?

Occassionally I have one that just won't stop peeping no matter what. Sometimes they make it to 10 or 12 weeks but I've always lost them. Something is "wrong" with them. Sorry. I hope that's not it.

I only have 4 hens in the breeding pen but I do have some young pullets.
Have you thought about a Birchen project for your rooster?

we do go to our local and county livestock shows they are small but it dose take most day but my girls really like it. We just don't go to any big shows. May be your Nubian will kid today my last one layed around and grunted a lot the day before she went.

While it is chilly this morning, the sun is shining. Will be moving the older juveniles to the new coop today and rearranging the Cochin breeding pen.

Have 27 eggs in lockdown in the bedroom...the bulk of the eggs are out of pen 4... A Blue Bircken Wyandotte rooster over Black Bircken and Blue hens. There is also a CW and a BCW hen in the pen...got some nice yellow legged Black chicks hatching from that pen.

Moving 25 flats of plants in and outside every day is getting routine...Some of my tomatoe plants are already 10 inches tall and have blooms. Started squash and cucumbers in 4 inch pos to have them ready to set out when the weather finally settles down.

Watching the news coverage while I drink another coffee...praying for families in the Boston area.

Hope everyone has a wonderful productive day.
