***OKIES in the BYC III ***

$25 fee. You can have up to 12 chickens. Your structure must be at least 25 feet from the nearest neighboring dwelling (not property line) but it can be closer to your own home, and it has to have good drainage, whatever that means. You have to get your setup ready, then contact animal control at (580) 581-3218 to have it inspected to make sure it meets the city's guidelines before you bring in your birds.

And I passed. Easier than expected. The guy was impressed by our modified chicken tractor, and had apparently never seen an automatic waterer.

Another step in our move to homesteading in the city, complete.

mama took them down to the pond and the yellow one didn't come back- she's in lock down with them till they are bigger-

My newest chicks are almost a week old and sick of being in the brooder. Every time I check on them, someone has gotten out! Lol they LOVE their yogurt! They can't get enough of it and they get it everywhere lol

I would LOVE for mine to be out because I know they would enjoy it so much they just worry me lol do you put them back in the brooder at night?

I have a fenced covered area spefically for chicks it is attatched to my coop which has a fenced off section in it for the chicks inside the coop so they can be w/ the big chickens but be safe. My chicks have been in the chick "yard" days since they were about 1 week old (most days) but being put back in the inside (the house) brooder each night, then they have been living in the coop and chick yard full time since Mond when they were about 2.5 wks old.

I would not let them out w/o a fenced COVERED run, been there done that last year lost most of them to either a feral cat or hawk or both, even w/ a broody mom.

Picking peas by the bucketfull now. Planted out the winter squash on the west bed of the chicken pen and darned if the turkey poults didn't stick their heads through the pallet boards sideways and then peck at the leaves through the chicken wire and trellis support. That's gonna be some dang good turkey sausage real soon. I did plant some currant tomatoes in that bed too that I had extra figuring they could eat whatever they could reach since the plants are supposed to get huge and I already have three others planted elsewhere. Now to get the top netting finished over the pen ...
I had currant tomatoes a couple of years ago. I loved them and can't find the plants for sale anywhere locally now. I did get volunteer plants the next year but that plot is now chicken run. They are fun to sprinkle on salads though labor intensive to pick; takes a lot of them to fill a quart.

No! NOT ok. for cats! - o.k. for dogs though. Cats have such different metabolism that many other animals, can't have aspirin and other analgesics that dogs and many other animals can take.
