I’ve been thinking about you all a lot lately, I guess it’s the whole springtime thing. I know I missed POOPS. I don’t have the heart to get more birds after losing so many favorites last fall and didn’t want to be tempted (as I know I can’t trust myself).
Coral, I want you to know the Brabanter trio are doing awesome! Both girls have been laying an egg a day since shortly after I got them. My Spitzhauben quad are also doing great. I’m debating selling their eggs on craigslist. Not to make any money but because they’re such cool breeds and uncommon enough that they can be difficult to find and I’d like for others to enjoy them, too. My Bantam Faverolles are all doing great also, as broody as Cochins. But I pick up eggs religiously because I’ve decided I get way too attached to chicks and it’s best I just don’t allow any to hatch.
My best little Serama buddy, Channing is doing just wonderful and says to wave a wing to you all for him. The dogs are closed off from the livingroom and our bedroom now so Channing gets to watch Netflix with me all the time. He’s not much bigger than the Ringneck Doves.
If any of you remember my Brown Red Cochin boy “Lillith”, he’s beautiful! I thought he was a girl right up until he crowed. I still held out hope it wasn’t really a crow. No such luck. My Dark Brahama girls are doing great also, along with my Cochins.
Robin, I still have Mattie-the little Blue Cochin bantam I got from you a long time ago. She’s the one that stole all those eggs and disappeared for 3 wks last summer and I thought I’d lost her. Then she emerged from under the shed with 10 tiny babies. I still have the babies, except for 2 that died early on. The 5 boys live in a 50x50 yard together are doing fine with each other. The girls live with their mama and a slew of Sebright & OEGB hens.
Carl-3 of those OEGB’s are the 3 I got from you. They’ve remained perfectly healthy all along.
Betsy, I’ve gotten 3 Silkies from you in the past. A Black girl & a Blue Partridge girl at the Shawnee show Dec 2011and a beautiful Splash girl at 2012 POOPS. All 3 have been healthy and strong and done excellent. I love those 3 girls. It confuses me how some birds just don’t even get sick when others get way sick and die. It must be strong immune systems.
If anyone might be interested-I do have a white Frizzle Bantam Cochin boy-gorgeous and sweet, about 2 yrs old that I really should find a good home for. I got him last summer because I felt so dang sorry for him. He was living with a huge rooster and a hen in a 4x4 cage on the ground. Full time, that’s where they lived. He’s not “sit on your lap tame” but he’s not aggressive at all and takes really good care of his girls. If I can’t find someone who really wants him I’ll just keep him. But I’ve got so darn many boys that hatched here and I feel like I need to make them my 1st priority. Anyway, if anyone’s interested you’ll have to meet me at the I-35 and Waterloo Rd exit. I don’t want to have to drive a long ways to take him to you.
Someone was supposed to have taken one of the Orps a few months back but she ended up changing her mind. I did find homes for them though. They were the ones I’d bought thinking they were pullets. Why do my girls always mutate into boys??
Oh!
Maribeth-if you happen to see this, tell your grandson the 2 Finches are doing great! They live in the livingroom in a tall cage on top of the 125 g fish tank. I love their little constant meeping noises

I decided to list a Rosy Bourke parakeet on Craigslist for $75 also. That’s what I paid for him at the bird show recently. He’s a year old and that beautiful pink and gray color. He’s not tame although he never bites when you pick him up. If anyone knows what they are and is interested, let me know.
Christina, I saw you’re getting your house built? I’m so glad for you!! How are you feeling? How’s Taron? I killed a snake yesterday in the Orpington coop and thought of Taron lol I darn near picked the thing up when I was reaching for their waterer to fill it. He had light pink rings on him, I guess he was a rat snake. I don’t know. The Orp girls (the ones from Bill!) were squawking and squallering and carrying on. I told them it was a 20' python and that I'd saved them lol
