***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My best little Serama buddy, Channing is doing just wonderful and says to wave a wing to you all for him. The dogs are closed off from the livingroom and our bedroom now so Channing gets to watch Netflix with me all the time. He’s not much bigger than the Ringneck Doves.

Robin, I still have Mattie-the little Blue Cochin bantam I got from you a long time ago. She’s the one that stole all those eggs and disappeared for 3 wks last summer and I thought I’d lost her. Then she emerged from under the shed with 10 tiny babies. I still have the babies, except for 2 that died early on. The 5 boys live in a 50x50 yard together are doing fine with each other. The girls live with their mama and a slew of Sebright & OEGB hens.

have missed you!! Glad Channing is strong as ever- the only ones i will expand is the faverolles, i have about as many as i can afford and take care of- glad to hear mattie is still going strong- those cochins are something else! Wish i had the extra for that parrot- they are beautiful!!

Thanks! :) I am now walking distance from my work.

Once we are fully moved and our farm cleaned up, we will probably use our big trailer for the mobile processing unit. So, we have all the parts, just need to strap it together.

Gotta love it when a plan comes together.  We are trying to be as self sufficient as possible while in town too.  We have almost 1 acre, so will never be fully, but w/ fruit trees, berry plants, garden, chickens, and meat rabbits hopefully we will get close.

You can do pretty well on 1 acre I would think. We only have 1/4 acre and are starting to produce most of our own food stuffs at least. Switching the poultry over to fodder has been a huge savings as we have no way to produce enough grains for feed. Now if I could get some tea plants and find a way to press sorghum for sugar, we'd be golden. Lol.

Are you sure bees aren't allowed? I know in Tulsa you are allowed 4 hives as long as they are 20 feet from your property line. But I'm sure you've researched it for your town.

We use two hive bodies per hive and the add supers to that....were running six hives. Lost several to vireo mites and the last to wax moths. We are talking about beginning again.

Looking forward to a visit from OkieT this morning.

We got about 1/2 inch of rain last night. Hope no one had any damage from the storms last night.

Were you able to completely switch to fodder no bagged chicken food at all?

I need to get a harvestable harvest of sorghum and an cost effective way to press it too.

A dairy animal would make me closer to self suffiicient in one way, the dairy products, but further in another way, feeding them. But the point is mute since Gary won't go along w/ a dairy animal in town (even the small sheep / goats)
