***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Beautiful flower pics. Well, I had my little silkie girl fooled for a day or so but she's sharper than my boy. She kept getting in my beets and digging them up and eating the greens so since they were in the greenhouse beds, which w've just rolled the sides up on, I just shut the door because that was where she was going in at. But she's on to me and figured out she could simply go in the open side. Sigh. Guess I'll have to put up netting again this year. Those silkies are so stinkin cute, I just hate to say no to them.

Can anyone verify for me that the Coweta auction is on for this coming Friday? Was planning on taking all my extra birds but I don't want to make the drive for nothing...

Hey guys! Just checking in. Life is busy here with the construction of the house. Making 3 trips a day to the hardware store doesn't leave a girl much time to get online. Hopefully all wire will be ran by tomorrow then on to duct work & plumbing. I took a few pics the other day to post but haven't even uploaded them. I ended up with 10 call ducks out of 18 shipped eggs!!! My speckled Sussex chicks are doing awesome with their sera gate broody mommas, think we have 17 chicks total. The 2 mommas are doing awesome sharing a dog box & caring for all the chicks, I am so thankful they are not fighting over them. Also my doe already has her kids out in the yard, trying to keep up with the other goats that are a month old.
Really hope I get a chance to post some pics soon, but honestly I spend almost every waking moment in the construction zone. We are over half way finished so that is an AWESOME plus!!

Saturday I think Taron will have keets to donate towards the auction. They woke me this AM as the hatching began. Makes it even better when the chirping gets the guinea pig to sound his alarm too.

I have a fenced covered area spefically for chicks it is attatched to my coop which has a fenced off section in it for the chicks inside the coop so they can be w/ the big chickens but be safe. My chicks have been in the chick "yard" days since they were about 1 week old (most days) but being put back in the inside (the house) brooder each night, then they have been living in the coop and chick yard full time since Mond when they were about 2.5 wks old.

I would not let them out w/o a fenced COVERED run, been there done that last year lost most of them to either a feral cat or hawk or both, even w/ a broody mom.
Yes our run is covered and pretty safe! I just worry about them so much because I lost so many (I think it was just a bad batch) but now I just worry about them all constantly! Lol but everyday when I come home, at least 1 or 2 have escaped from the brooder and they're running around perfectly fine!

I’ve been thinking about you all a lot lately, I guess it’s the whole springtime thing. I know I missed POOPS. I don’t have the heart to get more birds after losing so many favorites last fall and didn’t want to be tempted (as I know I can’t trust myself).

Coral, I want you to know the Brabanter trio are doing awesome! Both girls have been laying an egg a day since shortly after I got them. My Spitzhauben quad are also doing great. I’m debating selling their eggs on craigslist. Not to make any money but because they’re such cool breeds and uncommon enough that they can be difficult to find and I’d like for others to enjoy them, too. My Bantam Faverolles are all doing great also, as broody as Cochins. But I pick up eggs religiously because I’ve decided I get way too attached to chicks and it’s best I just don’t allow any to hatch.
My best little Serama buddy, Channing is doing just wonderful and says to wave a wing to you all for him. The dogs are closed off from the livingroom and our bedroom now so Channing gets to watch Netflix with me all the time. He’s not much bigger than the Ringneck Doves.
If any of you remember my Brown Red Cochin boy “Lillith”, he’s beautiful! I thought he was a girl right up until he crowed. I still held out hope it wasn’t really a crow. No such luck. My Dark Brahama girls are doing great also, along with my Cochins.

Robin, I still have Mattie-the little Blue Cochin bantam I got from you a long time ago. She’s the one that stole all those eggs and disappeared for 3 wks last summer and I thought I’d lost her. Then she emerged from under the shed with 10 tiny babies. I still have the babies, except for 2 that died early on. The 5 boys live in a 50x50 yard together are doing fine with each other. The girls live with their mama and a slew of Sebright & OEGB hens. Carl-3 of those OEGB’s are the 3 I got from you. They’ve remained perfectly healthy all along.

Betsy, I’ve gotten 3 Silkies from you in the past. A Black girl & a Blue Partridge girl at the Shawnee show Dec 2011and a beautiful Splash girl at 2012 POOPS. All 3 have been healthy and strong and done excellent. I love those 3 girls. It confuses me how some birds just don’t even get sick when others get way sick and die. It must be strong immune systems.

If anyone might be interested-I do have a white Frizzle Bantam Cochin boy-gorgeous and sweet, about 2 yrs old that I really should find a good home for. I got him last summer because I felt so dang sorry for him. He was living with a huge rooster and a hen in a 4x4 cage on the ground. Full time, that’s where they lived. He’s not “sit on your lap tame” but he’s not aggressive at all and takes really good care of his girls. If I can’t find someone who really wants him I’ll just keep him. But I’ve got so darn many boys that hatched here and I feel like I need to make them my 1st priority. Anyway, if anyone’s interested you’ll have to meet me at the I-35 and Waterloo Rd exit. I don’t want to have to drive a long ways to take him to you.
Someone was supposed to have taken one of the Orps a few months back but she ended up changing her mind. I did find homes for them though. They were the ones I’d bought thinking they were pullets. Why do my girls always mutate into boys??

Oh! Maribeth-if you happen to see this, tell your grandson the 2 Finches are doing great! They live in the livingroom in a tall cage on top of the 125 g fish tank. I love their little constant meeping noises :)
I decided to list a Rosy Bourke parakeet on Craigslist for $75 also. That’s what I paid for him at the bird show recently. He’s a year old and that beautiful pink and gray color. He’s not tame although he never bites when you pick him up. If anyone knows what they are and is interested, let me know.
Christina, I saw you’re getting your house built? I’m so glad for you!! How are you feeling? How’s Taron? I killed a snake yesterday in the Orpington coop and thought of Taron lol I darn near picked the thing up when I was reaching for their waterer to fill it. He had light pink rings on him, I guess he was a rat snake. I don’t know. The Orp girls (the ones from Bill!) were squawking and squallering and carrying on. I told them it was a 20' python and that I'd saved them lol

Good day all,
Don't forget about the youth benefit sale in newcastle. I will be taking a few trios of young birds BB Red rosecomb, Black Rosecombe, Birchen and silver Blue Oegb. and likely all the Birchen and silver blue eggs layed this week.
I have some other that could go as well but will see how much time I have available when it gets here.

Mitzi awesome to see you post! Taron is doing great, she has been hatching non stop for "customers" & a few for herself. She got braces a few wks ago so that has been loads of fun! So far we have only encountered 1 snake, but seen eggs disappearing. The snake battle will be in full force soon. Once I got a clear bill of health the house started & we may move into a semi finished house within the next few months. Have to decide what is worse, a house still in progress or staying in the 950 sq ft single wide.

Ksane, glad to see you post
