***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good Morning,
Rained here too not sure how much but love the cool air. I can lay off watering for a day or two. Was watering every other day. I try to soak the flower beds and even the vegetables deeply and thoroghly and not every day. I think that is better for their growth, but in the middle of the hot Oklahoma summer some of the beds dry out so fast.

I think you meant Nocityboy, I was at the movies with the wife. I wanted to go but why tortue myself when i have no pens to put my birds in. Hope you guys had fun.

I sure enjoyed visiting with the great Okies that could attend the Blanchard auction last night. I think the only people that made out like bandits last night were the buyers. The prices were so low that I felt that everything we bought, we stole for the price we paid. We have to return there today to pick up a large wooden dog house, 2 metal cages that fit pickup beds (I think that's what they're for) and suprisingly those 3 things I only bid $21 total for all three! Yes, I stole them, but I sure don't look forward to figuring out how we're getting them home today.

Once again, it was great to see so many Okies last night, and especially great to see soldier Doc there last night. I'm absolutely amazed that he went to an auction last night when he's only been back in Oklahoma for so few hours. That's a true BYC Okie chicken fanatic if you ask me

Sorry so many others couldn't be there to visit too. This Oklahoma heat is sure draining the energy out of us.

okcracefun, you should have gone to the auction just to visit with so many Okies. There's many times a crowd of us that sit there and never buy any birds. It's fun visiting & watching the action!

Got all excited on the drive home this morning from just south of Muskogee to tiger mountain it was raining a downpour, but then it just stopped! No rain in the rain gauge this morning at all. Gary said it barely sprinkled yesterday.

Big dry cracks still all over the yard.

So glad Doc is home!

Poco - what a complement to me for people to mistake us for sisters! I enjoyed hanging out with you for that short time as well and visiting with folks. Just think how much $$ you could have made on those Light Sussex pullets. If we would have trained them to escape and return to us, we could have sold them several times! I was glad to hear some people say they'd be back to see you next weekend. Did you sell those last two ducks before you went home?

Kass - sorry you didn't get any rain.

Buckguy - we'll miss you while you're at Falls Creek this week.

Okracefan - hope the movie took your mind off your troubles for a few minutes.

Hey, Stimp. I crashed right after I posted that so missed yours. It is about 3 or 4 miles north of Cyril off SH 8. Gonna post pics later.

If you are interested I can pm the details.

That would be us. I use a 10% bleach solution to both sanitize the eggs before setting, use water around the 100 deg F range, dip the eggs and then let air dry and don't rinse.

We use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. We found out about this the first time we went through NPIP classes way back when.

What was the reason they gave for doing it?

Traci

It keeps bacteria at bay. Our teacher was assigned to SE Ok. where the big poultry operations are at and that was what they used to sterilize eggs. Much less expensive then the commercial egg washes or disinfectants and according to their lab results just as effective.

Okie Peep, checking in here.

I'm out near Inola ( east of Tulsa ) and have New Hamp's, but am now the proud owner of 2 blue Orpington roo chicks and 1 black pullet Orp. I'm on the hunt for new Orpington pullets or hens, if anyone hears of any, I would greatly appreciate any help in building my new flock. Nice to meet you!

Carrie
